Natalie's Point of View

I stormed out of the bedroom, slamming the door behind me, leaving Brandon on the bed, fists clenched, chest heaving, glaring at the sheets like they had personally betrayed him. The sound of the door echoed through the hallway, a punctuation mark on our fight, a reminder that I was still in control.

Ryleigh was somewhere nearby, probably in her room down the hall, buried in homework, humming softly to herself, trying to escape the storm that always seemed to follow us. Let her think everything is calm. Let her think she's safe.

I pressed my back against the wall, taking a deep breath, letting the tension under my skin settle just enough for me to think. I needed a bubble bath, something to soothe the pulse of fury and exhilaration running through me, a ritual that would give me clarity to plan, to savor the chaos I had created. Brandon was still in the room, still stewing over his wounded pride, and that was perfect. He never saw me coming.

I dialed Terrence, needing to hear his voice, to confirm that everything was still in motion exactly as we planned.

Phone conversation

"Hey, it's me," I said, keeping my voice calm, measured.

"Hey," Terrence replied, steady, as if he'd been expecting the call. "Everything okay?"

"I needed to check in," I said, running a hand along the hallway wall. "Brandon... he's still fuming from tonight. I want to make sure everything is still on track."

"Relax," he said, his tone smooth but sharp. "Everything is exactly where it needs to be. The accounts are clean, the audits won't notice a thing. By the time anyone realizes, Brandon will already be looking for someone to blame."

A small smile tugged at my lips. "And the offshore account?"

"All set," he said. "Transfers look legitimate, signatures are tied up. No trails. Divorce finalizes first; his anger looks justified, no suspicion falls on us."

I exhaled slowly. "Good. I want the settlement to cover everything we need. I don't want to leave anything to chance."

"You won't," he assured me. "Natalie, you'll have Ryleigh as long as you play the part. Wronged wife, grieving mother, whatever you need to be, you'll keep her. You're convincing enough."

"I will," I said, letting a small, wicked smile slip through. "More than anything, I'll keep her."

"There's no room for mistakes," he said quietly. "Stay careful. Don't get attached to the lie. The lie keeps you alive."

"I know," I said, tension easing just slightly. "I'm careful. Always."

"Good," he said, a faint edge of amusement in his voice. "We're in control. He doesn't see it coming. Not yet."

I hung up, letting the quiet of the hallway wash over me, feeling the pulse of power running through my veins. Everything was moving exactly as we planned.

Terrence's Point of View

Everything is going according to plan. Patience is the sharpest edge I own, and I sit in my study with the blinds half-closed, the city lights bleeding through slats, thinking about the web we've spun. Natalie is convinced she's in control, convinced she's the one holding the strings, and that keeps her obedient, keeps her motivated. She's the perfect actress in our little drama.

Brandon trusts too easily, loves too freely, and that is his weakness. He has no idea the accounts are drained, the shell companies in place, the audits scrubbed. When the clients notice, he will take the fall, and I will remain clean. Natalie will have what she wants for now: Ryleigh, the settlement, and I will ensure the plan continues without her disrupting it.

She thinks she loves me. A useful illusion, nothing more. Her hunger makes her cooperative, her greed makes her blind, and her naivety ensures the perfect execution. When the final moves are made, the house will feel empty in ways Brandon cannot name, the public will demand a villain, and he will find himself the only actor on stage without a script.

I sip my drink and toast to the quiet before the storm, to the inevitability of his fall, and the patience required to see revenge perfected. The pieces are in place, the timeline is tight, and the outcome is inevitable.
