IN THE CAR

"You're quiet. Is that a sign of brain damage? Should I be worrying?", you joke.

"Your tone sounds like you wish my injuries were worse."

"What happened between you and you-know-who? She looked upset."

"Rhonda?"

"Yeah, her."

"Nosy aren't you?"

"Mhm. So you won't tell me?"

"No."

"I see how it is. Keep your secrets then."

You turn your attention back to the road. A few moments later, Yūji speaks again.

"I broke up with her."

"Oh... Yikes."

You didn't know the girl so it wouldn't be fair to say you didn't like her. You rarely had a conversation with her. But to say you didn't feel some type of joy hearing that, you'd be lying, not that you'd ever admit something so egocentric out loud.

"That's... something. But you called her to the hospital to dump her? Kinda shitty."

"Maybe. But there was no point in dragging things."

"Moving on... How long until you can get your car fixed? I'm not gonna be your chauffeur."

"I'm not sure yet. I'll see what happens over the weekend."

THE NEXT DAY:
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19

You went to your classes as usual. Yūji stayed in which he did say he'd be doing. Said he needed time to 'recuperate' which was just an excuse giving him a reason to skip classes. He was in top condition regardless of having a broken wrist.

"Yūji I'm back! You here?"

"In the shower!", he calls back.

Not even two minutes since you walked in and someone was already knocking at the door.

"Hanako?"

You were surprised to see one of Yūji's older sisters standing in front of the door. She was only a year older and the two of you used to hang out a lot back when you and her brother dated and you still lived in Miyagi. It's been well over a year since you last saw her.

"Woah. You really are pregnant. I thought that was just a joke. Can I come in?"

"Uh yeah, sure." You step out of the doorway. "What are you doing all the way here in Hyōgo?"
