Rosie was a little nervous walking into the office.
Elijah's mother was there and she'd watched enough Korean drama's to know what happens when the girl meets the mother.
The mother would offer money to leave him and when she doesn't take it, she'd throw a glass of water in her face. Rosie admitted that she imagined too much.
Elijah never talked about his family much and Rosie never talked about hers either.
Rosie wondered how they could get married in the future if they weren't honest with each other.
"Haven't I told you countless times to be confident?" Her subconscious indicated accompanying Rosie to her desk.
Rosie rolled her eyes. It wasn't about confidence, she needed things to go smoothly.
She felt insecure after Talia told her that she would never be treated in the way Rosie was treated on the internet.
"How much longer are you going to give Talia that power to make you feel that way" Rosie chuckled.
It wasn't as easy as she claimed. Rosie immediately stood up from her desk as she saw Elijah's mother walk out of his office.
She looked like a petite woman around her 60s and she was African-American. She looked elegant but simple and she had a bright smile sprawled across her face.
"You must be Rosie" Elijah's mother claimed walking over to Rosie's desk.
She held her hand out and Rosie shook it accordingly.
"It's nice to be meet you Mrs. Blackwell" Rosie replied feeling heat creep across her cheeks. She was far too nervous to function.
"Nonsense, call me Amelia" Amelia chuckled and Elijah stood there staring at the two most important women in his life.
Rosie nodded and Amelia put a hand on Elijah's arm as she was about to say something.
Just as she was about to open her mouth, Talia appeared and Rosies smile disappeared. Amelia seemed to notice the tension.
"Omg Mrs. Blackwell, it's so nice to see again," Talia said basically praising beneath Amelia's feet.
Rosie looked down at her hands as if something had pinched in her stomach.
The only thing standing in between happiness and Elijah was Talia. She'd always be the second option.
"You too Talia so anyway as I was saying, I think I will borrow Rosie for a little while if you don't mind Elijah?" Amelia insisted and completely ignored Talia.
Rosie didn't know whether to be grateful or scared.
"If Rosie is okay with it"
"I am"
"It's settled then, Rosie let's go" Amelia pulled Rosie's hand before she had a chance to say anything to Elijah.
Rosie thought in some way that not only did Amelia take her from Elijah but she also compromised and took her away from Talia as well.
They settled at a restaurant that seemed far too expensive to Rosie's liking. Guards surrounded the building as well.
"Sorry for the guards, I'm afraid that my son is a bit protective...over both of us" Amelia stated and Rosie nodded her head understanding.
She felt her heart race as Amelia reached for the glass of water suited on the table. She closed her eyes and waited for the water to soak into her clothes and face but it never came.
"I won't say a lot of Elijah's past out respect for him but he is adopted because I couldn't conceive, he is my little boy no matter where he came from," Amelia said honestly and Rosie felt like she had related in terms of not being able to conceive.
"I understand" Rosie whispered. She picked up her glass of water unable to hide her shaken-up hand.
She smiled apologetically. Amelia put a hand over Rosies trembling hand, she could tell that Rosie was scared.
"Now, I notice the unwelcoming tension between you and Talia"
"That obvious huh?" Rosie bit her lip trying to remember what she did to make it so obvious.
It must have been when her smile faded and when her head looked down.
"I may be old but I'm not stupid" Amelia chuckled and Rosie wondered if she should tell her the story of their bad blood.
She didn't want to make it awkward or put Talia in that position of the bad guy.
"She has done that multiple times girl wake up!" her subconscious said that was playing with Amelia's hair.
Rosie smiled awkwardly removing her attention away from her subconscious.
"Talia and I...used to be best friends but Elijah got in the way so..." Rosie looked down at her hands again.
Being reminded of it made her sad because their ties were always severed even with bad blood. Rosie told herself that she hated Talia but she never could.
"What happened?" Amelia had seem invested in the story.
"Well, back then for some unknown reason Elijah broke up with me, and before we even dated, Talia and him had a thing" Rosie stated.
"After we broke up, she asked me to get her back with Elijah and I tried to but Elijah wasn't interested anymore so she blamed me for it" Rosie continued and his mother was awestruck.
Every time Rosie retells this story, it made her feel clustered and regretful.
She should've told Talia, no but instead, she helped. Rosie helped everyone around her except herself and it hurt Elijah to see it.
The way she neglected her happiness so that others could be happy.
"It's not your fault, Elijah is a complicated man but he knows what he wants" Amelia referred to Rosie when she mentioned that Elijah knows what he wants.
"Has...he ever told you about me back then when we broke up?" Rosie raised her eyebrows because his mother spoke in two different tenses.
She spoke in the past as well as the present maybe even in the future.
"Everyday" Amelia admitted and Rosie gasped. Had he liked her more than she expected back then?
"Do you think I'd be nice to just anyway one my son brings home? you're special" Amelia explained and Rosie smiled feeling relieved.
