You were jolted awake, disoriented as the sunlight streamed through the window, casting bright patches on your rumpled bedspread. You hadn't been prepared for this abrupt wake-up call. Your cousin burst into your room without so much as a knock, his energy as overwhelming as the brightness of the morning. It felt like a jolt of caffeine, yet you were still half-asleep. The last thing you expected was an invitation to a gang meeting, especially not at this hour.
"Yeah. I haven't asked Mikey yet, but I'll just inform him later." Keisuke's voice rang with a bubbling excitement, a sound that tried but failed to conceal the grin splitting across his face. It was infectious, but you weren't in the mood to reciprocate his enthusiasm.
You couldn't help but facepalm, frustration bubbling up as you pressed your fingers against your temple, feeling the tension settle in. Sighing deeply, you massaged the bridge of your nose, attempting to ward off the headache threatening to bloom. "No. I'm not going." Your tone was firm, leaving no room for negotiation, and the resoluteness in your voice seemed to dampen Keisuke's buoyant spirit. The grin on his face vanished, replaced by a furrowed brow as he crossed his arms defensively, his frown deepening.
"And why?" he challenged, his tone a mixture of curiosity and exasperation. He had always talked about his gang with a passion that was hard to ignore, his animated stories filled with victories, triumphs, and the camaraderie of Toman. You could picture him coming home from a late-night brawl, adrenaline still coursing through his veins as he called you, even at the most ungodly hours, to recount tales of their latest adventures. Each story painted vivid images in your mind, yet you found yourself only half-listening, knowing the outcome would always be the same: Toman's victorious streak, like a broken record on repeat.
Keisuke was eager to introduce you to his friends, a prospect that was clearly exciting for him, yet you felt the weight of reluctance pressing down on you. If he were to simply let your refusal slide, he wouldn't be Keisuke.
"Why don't you want to go?" His voice was laced with irritation, and in a moment of mischief, he yanked the blanket you had cocooned yourself in, sending it tumbling to the floor beyond your reach. You groaned, squinting at him through your sleepy haze as you attempted to pull the covers back.
"Just because." You huffed, reaching out in a futile attempt to reclaim your warmth.
Keisuke, ever the playful antagonist, tossed the blanket even further away, his grin resurfacing. "That's a stupid reason not to go! I wanna introduce you to my friends, don't you want to meet them too?"
