They headed off to Gringotts, Hagrid telling Hermione about the security and goblins at Gringotts. When they walked into the wizarding bank they were greeted by a sign.
ENTER, STRANGER, BUT TAKE HEED
OF WHAT AWAITS THE SIN OF GREED
FOR THOSE WHO TAKE, BUT DO NOT EARN
MUST PAY MOST DEARLY IN THEIR TURN
SO IF YOU SEEK BENEATH OUR FLOORS
A TREASURE THAT WAS NEVER YOURS
THIEF, BEWARE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
OF FINDING MORE THAN TREASURE THERE.
"That's totally barbaric!" Hermione exclaimed.
"Like I said, yeh'd be mad ter try an' rob it!" Hagrid looked shocked. "This however is new. Y'reckon they pu' it there because of the you-know-what tha' Dumbledore is storing there?"
"Hagrid don't talk about this here!" James said sternly.
Everyone looked confused except for Hagrid, James, and Lily. Despite James telling Hagrid to be quiet they shared a look that clearly said I agree with you.
"Vault 687, please Griphook."
"Yes, yes I know where your vault is. You're the Potters after all."
"I'd also like to go to vault 713. Dumbledore has asked us to get you-know-what." Lily said kindly, holding out an envelope. Griphook reached his hand out towards Lily and grabbed the envelope. Griphook slid his long, dirty fingernails under it and read the note inside of it.
"This seems to be in order" he grunted. Griphook made a gesture for everyone to follow him into a cart and set off through underground London.
"Hermione, I did tell yeh that Gringotts is miles un'er London righ'?"
"No actually you didn't Hagrid! That is very interesting." Hermione said this in a half pompous manner which annoyed Ron very much. He scowled at her and turned away crossing his arms. They went through the twisting mazes in the carriages. Hermione was bombarding Hagrid with questions, then stopped when she actually saw Hagrid. Hagrid's face was turning a murky shade of green. He was holding his mouth, as if trying to stop something from coming up. He let out a humongous burp, that seemed to shake the carriage. Finally they came to a stop in front of Vault 687.
"The Potters, along with the money of Neville Longbottom, Vault 687. Also, The Granger Vault, 688," Griphook said, looking bored.
"Thank you!" Hermione squealed.
They went into their vault, keys turning. A lot of gold greeted the Potters, and more gold kept appearing for Hermione.
"Wow!" She muttered under her breath.
"Out we get Harry and Neville" Lily said. The family got out of the cart along with Griphook and opened their vault. The vault has mounds of gold and treasures that gleamed. Harry turned around to the Weasleys astonished faces. Lily also saw this and gestured for them to follow her. Lily Potter was the kindest person in the wizarding world. She shared her wealth, belongings, house, and everything with people less fortunate than herself. Harry Potter may have looked like James Potter, he actually had inherited his mother's personality. James Potter was slightly arrogant, and he was amazing at quidditch. Harry had inherited that from his father. Lily piled some of the gold into a small bag and handed it to James.
"Okay, that's us done. Hermione, are you done honey?" Lily enquired with a kindly expression on her face.
"Yes Mrs Potter!" Hermione replied excitedly.
"Please, I insist, call me Lily," she had the most contagious smile, Lily did.
"Bes' be getting o' to Ollivander's now. Tha's where we'll ge' our wands," Hagrid said to Hermione.
"I already knew that" her teeth seemed to be sticking out more than ever. "But thank you, still. I am quite well informed from reading all the books. Why, I've already read most 3rd and 4th Year stuff as well. Just because it's now wizarding school, doesn't mean I can't be top," Hermione was beaming so much, it was a wonder her teeth didn't fall off.
They reached Ollivander's and were greeted by a dirty, rusty sign, quite unlike to the one at Gringotts.
"Neville Longbottom. I've been expecting you. First of all, let's see how good my memory is. Now, James Potter. 11 inches, Mahogany and what was the core again? Ah yes, Unicorn Hair. Quite the powerful wand. Now, dear Lily, 10 ¼ inches long, made of willow and a core of dragon heartstring. Quite easy to break yet, it seems very safe in your hands. Now, Hagrid. You were expelled in your third year weren't you, they snapped your wand in half!" Ollivander seemed very stern at this, and Hagrid was looking down at his pink umbrella. "Such an amazing creation of mine. Such a shame. 16 inches, oak wood, with a core unknown to man. Now for the children. Ah, another redhead, this must mean another Weasley!" Ollivander looked excited.
"Ron will just be using an old wand. I'm afraid we don't have the money; wands are so expensive right now!" Mrs Weasley said.
"Very well then. This is a new face. What's you're name?" "Miss Hermione Granger sir" "You must be a muggle-born. Now, you mustn't listen to the talks of others. Never be deterred by
your blood status. All this nonsense going 'round. It's daft," he muttered to himself. "Ok, let's see. Try this."
Hermione held the wand. A warm glow spread around her, covering her in a golden mist. Through the thick fog, you could still hear her muttering to herself. Even a muggle would be able to tell that this was one powerful wand, especially once it feels the warmth of Hermione's hands.
"That's a powerful wand. Treat it with caution. Ok that is... hm... okay found it. 10 ¾ inches, made of vine wood, and dragon heartstring. You are one powerful girl, who I can see will turn into a knowledgeable young lady. Now you," he said glancing at Harry. "You must be Harry Potter. Now, I've seen your mother, I've seen your father, and they are both amazing people. I have stored a wand for you that I think will be perfect. 13 inches, cherry, and unicorn hair".
Once again, the warm fog filled the room as Harry took the wand.
It seemed that Ollivander was the best wand-maker they would find. Everyone was admiring the fog, except for Neville. He was scared that no wand would choose him. As he had been told before, the wand chooses the wizard. What if they found out that Neville wasn't a wizard? That he was, in fact, a SQUIB! Then, sooner then he wanted, it was his turn.
"Neville. I have waited long for you. Your story is one that many know. I feel so honoured that I have been chosen to make your wand. Now, due to your... circumstances, your wand will be a complicated one. Hmmm. Try this." Ollivander handed Neville a wand. Everyone was expecting the fog to fill the room, but instead... BANG! Neville's wand had exploded into smithereens.
"No. Maybe not!" he went to the back and picked a different box; this one was long. "Hmmm. I don't know. Could it? Would it work. Let's give it a try."
Neville picked it up. He was scared. What would happen now? But this time, it was perfect. His worries went away as the golden fog swirled around him. It was the best experience of his life. This was the one. Somehow, it seemed better than everyone else's. It was as if the whole world had melted away.
"Interesting. Very interesting. How could it be. Very peculiar. To think. You-Know-Who. And Longbottom. The scar. It. And. It. Very peculiar indeed." Ollivander muttered under his breath.
"W-what's peculiar?" Neville questioned.
"That scar. You-Know-Who made that scar. With a wand. That wand had a phoenix feather. The phoenix only gave one other feather. To the wand in your hand. That wand, and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's wand. Are brothers. It seems strange. He tried to kill you with the brother of your wand. But the wand chooses the wizard and, there's no point denying it Mr Longbottom. That wand chose you, for reasons, unknown to man." Mr Ollivander sighed and walked into the depths of his shop.
