16. Fire (Eren x LevI)

The very last flame lapped up feebly at the indigo tinged pool, before the releasing the remainder of its smoke into the night sky. Another expedition, another loss of lives. Almost 40 percent of the Survey Corps didn't return... The rest were severly injured, bandages and blood caking their flesh. Stretchers, horses, and two carriages holding either wounded or dead soldiers. The tension that was held by the crowd was filled with fear to never being able to defeat titans. "Another failure" and "A waist of our money" were many words that were mumbled throughout the crowd. The colbat irises of the damaged Coporal sent most of the crowd silent, his normal stoic gaze glossed over with tears. His hood was drawn over his raven locks, a small stream of tears falling from his eyes. "I'm sorry, Coporal..." A small hand was rested upon his shoulder, the blonde boy crying himself over what had happened. One of the bodies of a murdered soldier, instead of him being with the others he was resting on the Corporal's horse with him. His brunette tresses were stuck to his forehead with both sweat and blood, his once bright Caribbean blue irises that shimmered with hope and determination were now glazed over. His once tan skin that seemed to radiate heat was now icy cold. Those lips that were soft, despite the multiple scars from fights on their surface. When it was time to burn the bodies, the Corporal couldn't bring himself to allow it. The tears were streaming from his irises, an occasional hiccup stopping his sentences. "I... I can't *hic* let go... *hic*" He sobbed out, his hand clenching tightly onto the soldiers once warm hands. His body was soon torn from the ravenette's grasp, his heart shattering when a soldier tossed it like a rag doll into the flames. He clenched the brunette's cloak, his throat producing a choked sob as the flame was extinguished slowly.
