I should've believed Prof. Ketan when he told I wasn't ready. I should've looked around before I said anything to Shirley. But it was too late. They had already started suspecting me. They faith in me, if they ever had any, was almost gone. "I'm no witch" I repeated over and over again but it seemed like I trying to convince myself not them.
"Yeah, you told us and we didn't believe you" Caroline scoffed. I dropped my head down and thought hard. Would they believe me? Will they believe me? It's not that big a secret, I can tell them. People around the world are famous for it. Just when I was about to speak, Damon turned to Caroline and asked, "Why are you even here?" She glared at him and retorted saying, "I was half way home when I got a call from Matt"
"Well, we all have cell phones and you have our number. Why does everybody think this is a place vampires crash? It's beginning to get crowded" Damon closed his fists and shook his head as if he was shaking off stress and irritation.
"Why did Matt call?" Stefan asked.
"There's a new vampire in town" she replied and the next thing I know, I was in my jeep, Jeremy and Bonnie with me, while Damon, Elena and Stefan followed Caroline.
"Matt" Bonnie shouted into her small cellphone.
"You def need a new one, Bon" I said, looking at her from the rear view mirror.
"My name is Bonnie" she said, a certain edge in her voice. I swallowed the cool breeze and kept my on the road.
"Are you on hold or what?" Jeremy asked Bonnie.
"I don't know. Too much of disturbance. All I can hear is static. Something is terrible wrong" . I could sense the worry in her voice. Hell, I could sense the tension in the atmosphere. I hadn't met Matt but I knew everything about him. My whole class knew everything about each of them. My head was filled with thoughts. I wasn't sure if they trusted me, but the way Bonnie kept looking at me and communicating with Jeremy via sign language it kind of ticked me of. They could just talk if they wanted or talk later, even. They didn't have play a scene from my high school days. We reached the Grill, the place where Matt worked. Elena and Stefan ran inside, Jeremy and Bonnie close behind them. I was about to jump of my jeep when I heard a whistle and turned to my side. "Damon" I said, a bit shocked.
"Hello" he waved.
"You are a very interesting person, Damon" I said, staring right at him.
He raised his eyebrows as high as possible and laughed. "Why, thank you" his face dropped and in a dead serious tone her continued, "But that doesn't make me like you"
"Oh, please!" I waved him off with my hand. "I am not interested if you like me or not"
"If I were you, I would be careful how I spoke to me...and the others. Don't you need our help Namelia?" he grinned.
"It's Amelia. A.M.E.L.I.A" I spelled it out for him and shook my head, because it really didn't matter. "Again, you need my help, remember?"
"Hamelia, Hamelia, Hamelia" Damon said in a very disappointed voice. "You are the one who needs to prove something to everybody back at your little unknown university. We can take care of ourselves. We are, what, 5 vampires, not to forget a witch and a vampire hunter"
"Actually, Bonnie is the anchor, isn't she?" I reminded her.
"Looks like you didn't work hard enough on your research. We took care of that" he said and straightened his leather jacket. I glanced him. He was dressed in black. Black t-shirt, jacket, jeans, shoes. Yet, he had style and charisma no normal guy had. "What?" he asked snapping his fingers then I realized I staring at him.
"Aren't you excited to see what's going on inside?" I asked checking my reflection in the mirror.
"Whatever it is, it's nothing exciting to be excited about, Pamelia" he smirked.
"Okay! I don't even get why it's so funny. You are simply adding random letters before my name" I banged my hands on the steering wheel.
"Got you mad, didn't it?" He laughed and then he vanished. I screamed as loud as possible causing a couple who were too busy kissing to stop and laugh at me. That's good. Even strangers are laughing at me now. Wow! I'm such a loser. I jumped out and ran inside the diner or cafe, whatever that lame place was. It was empty. I was about to leave when I heard a noise from the washroom. I walked towards it and peeped inside. There they were. Everyone was gathered in a semi circle.
"What's up?" I asked Jeremy softly.
"See for yourself" he said and moved aside. There, right in front of me was a guy I didn't recognize, beheaded. The head was nowhere in sight but there was blood all over the place and bite marks. There were marks on his neck and wrist. I was on the verge of puking but pushed whatever intended to come out, back in. The place was stinking. But blood kept oozing out.
"Looks like he was killed not very long ago" I said, bending down and inspecting the body but not touching it.
"Wow, thanks Sherlock. We got this" Stefan said and turned to Matt who was looking me like I didn't belong. Well, he was right. I didn't belong. I was simply trying to fit in. I frowned and turned to leave but Damon was blocking my way. I looked up at him ,he gestured me to turn around. I turned and he stood beside me. "Still not exciting enough?" I whispered to him and that's when I saw Damon Salvatore smile. Actually smile. Not force a smile. But smile. A genuine smile.
