I was so confused, so angry, I had to hit something. Hit someone. How can he throw me off the project? He can't do that. I dialled Prof. Ketan but he didn't pick the call. I tried again and again and again. No luck. I was sitting in Damon's bathroom which was part of his bedroom, it didn't even have a door. Nor even a partition. How could he not feel shy? or awkward? Oh right. He was Damon. He had a body! OFF TOPIC! my head shouted and shook my phone, impatiently. Why? Why? why? I kept thinking. Prof. Ketan was always good at his work. No decisions without student's approval. That's why I liked him more than my parents. Something was terribly wrong. My vampire ....accompalices were downstairs thinking of a plan. It wasn't a plan for survival. I had a very strong feeling it was a plan of murder. I guess Tyler was right when he said they had certain number of days to plan how to kill or attack, whatever.
"You should leave" someone said, interrupting my thoughts. I looked up with a start and fell in the tub. He stuck out his hand. I took it and got to my feet. "How many times do I have to save you, huh?" Damon asked and raised an eyebrow. Despite everything that was going on around us, I smiled. It had barely been five minutes since my conversation with Prof. Ketan. "The Sheriff has something to say. She knows what triggered this chain of events"
"Okay" I mumbbled holding back tears.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Damon asked, tilting my face. "Are you gonna cry? Please don't cry" he said.
"I'm not crying........I'm just upset" I lied.
"Why is that?"
"Why? you are asking me why? Damon, I screwed everything up. I was supposed to save you guys. I'm the one who triggered this chain of events" I said making gestures with my hands. He caught them and held them against his chest. I looked nervously at him.
"Apolia, why do you keep blaming yourself?" he asked innocently.
"I don't want everyone to die. I don't want you to die. It won't be the same even if one of you disappears forever. You are a family, believe or not"
"Not" he said, immediately.
"You all saved my life, took care of me and how do I repay you? By bringing death upon you? No! this is not gonna happen Damon. I won't let it"
"What will you do?" he asked after a minute.
"Is there something I can do?" I asked and dropped my head.
"There actually is" . I looked at him wondering how he managed to pull off a feminine voice. He pointed at the Sheriff and whispered, "let go of my hands. Elena will eat you alive" . Suddenly I realized he wasn't holding my hands anymore, I was holding his. I dropped them and straightened my dirty shirt and jeans and walked out of the bathroom. Damon and I followed the Sheriff to the living room and I stood at one side waiting for her to tell me what I could do.
"one of my boys told me that we have time. Enough time to get you somewhere safe"
"Like where?" I asked immediately.
"Like the Lockwood cellar" she replied and looked at Damon for confirmation.
"No!" he yelled. "Liz I am not going inside a cellar where wolves tied themselves. We are natural enemies!"
"Damon" I said signaling him to stop talking. "How much time?" I asked Liz.
"10 minutes" she said and checked her watch.
"We agree" I said.
"No, we don't. Are you all gonna choose this moment to be cowards?" he asked, looking at everyone in the room.
