We're about four hours into our twenty three hour drive home when we stop in Casper, Wyoming for gas and a bathroom break. Since Aden agreed to take the scenic route home we're going through Wyoming, Montana and Washington. Which I'm really happy about because it's absolutely beautiful. I mean, the drive here was beautiful but it was mostly highway and now we get to go through even more states I haven't been to before. It added almost five hours to our drive but so far it has been worth every minute. Plus, more time to spend alone with Aden.

Aden and I get back on the road and have some small talk here and there, but for the most part it's just peaceful silence. At least there was peaceful silence before Aden's phone started going absolutely crazy. He kept sending the calls to voicemail and ignoring the texts which just didn't sit right with me. Ya know? Little sus if you ask me. So I did what any normal girlfriend would do. I stole his phone from his lap and hit the call back. Someone immediately answers with a deep raspy voice yelling shit I can't understand.

"Now why would you do that?" Aden tells me with 'I was ignoring them for a reason' written all over his face.

"Well, I thought it was a good idea at the time. Now I'm not too sure. They seem pissed or worried about something. Maybe even both. You should probably take this." I say holding out the phone in front of his face.

Aden lets out a 'huf' before taking the phone from my hand and just hangs up. "Ya know Sammy, I was ignoring them for a reason."

"Okay, and?" I spit back. "They were blowing you up so it must have been important and it was getting really annoying. I had to do something before I started banging my head on the window."

"First, it was just someone from the veil being overly dramatic. Second, I'm sure it wasn't annoying enough to start banging your head against a window. But just in case I'll put it on silent so I don't have to bring you to the loony bin."

"Um Aden, you aren't in my head. You don't know how bad it was. And if you bring me to a loony bin you're going in with me. I'll tell them you think you're a dainty fairy from another world and just slammed my head against the window when I said you were crazy. So how bout them apples?" I saw with the biggest smirk and side eye I could do without actually looking crazy.

"Now that would be just cruel."

"I'm a cruel person. You know this. Might even have to tie you up to convince the loony bin further." I joke.

"Don't tempt me with a good time." Aden says looking over and making direct eye contact with me before we both start laughing and trying to wack each other with our hands.

After the laughter and play fighting dies down the car falls back into silence and I go back to staring out the window left with my own thoughts. Who could be calling Aden that's from the veil so worried? Did something happen he's not telling me or has he gone too long without communicating with someone and they thought he was dead? Did he tell them what he thinks I am and that's why they're freaking out?

Ya know, maybe I'll just take a quick cat nap and then bring it up to Aden after. He seemed irritated by the whole thing and I want to give him time to calm down. Plus I need to calm down. I'm mentally exhausted and don't think I could even process the answer he gives me no matter what.

_______

"Good morning sleepy head" I hear Aden say while feeling him rub my leg.

"How long was I out?"

"About six hours. You must have been really tired. We hit some heavy rain and I thought for sure the noise was going to wake you up. It's just starting to lift up a little."
