I was sitting with my mom inside the airplane looking through Pinterest on my phone as we waited for the door to be shut. A message from Raven popped on my screen.

Robin was sooo confused when I went down for breakfast with Rayan. It was pretty funny to see him flustered.

So are you and Dreamy Rayan a thing or... What's the deal? I don't see you for a couple of weeks and then there's a new guy at dinner!
I smiled at the memory of when Raven registered her name on my phone. She was a woman full of spirit and humor. She had changed Robin's name to Mr. Boring, but he changed it back to Robin, but not before giving Raven a dirty look.

I'm only not asking for more information right now because we were just told to put away our electronics. But when I come back, you are SOO telling me everything.

If you really want to know, then I have no choice I guess lol. Have a safe flight! Love you bunches, Mackenzie!!!
I smiled and put my phone up and relaxed in my seat. I placed my head on my mom's shoulder and looked up at her. She smiled at me and then went back to reading her book about some archaeological find in Egypt. She was a smart woman.
"Mom, how did you meet my... Um, Nicholas?" I interrupted her reading.
"He's still your father, Mackenzie," she said sternly.
"No he's not. He doesn't do anything for me, so he isn't," I said with the same tone as hers.
Her eyes looked pleading like she was trying to make me realize her words were true. "He cares about you."
"Mom, he's never cared about me. I lived with the man, and he wasn't a pleasure to be around... How'd you fall in love with him," I asked with incredulity.
She suddenly looked loving with a distant look of reminiscence. "He was the perfect man when we met."
"How?" I could not envision my father being a good person and least of all the perfect man.
"I had started working at a museum as an intern archivist when I was almost twenty-one. After some time, I was given the opportunity to give tours of the museum to groups of school children. What I didn't know was that your grandmother had been watching me and paying attention to how I worked."
"Grandmother Estefania," I questioned.
"Yes. And for some reason, she was pleased with my work." Mom, you're a badass; of course she would be pleased. "She made me her unofficial assistant, so I started working in proximity with her. Then one day she had invited Nick to lunch but asked him to pick her up. It was all planned..." My mom shook her head in amusement. "I met Nick that day, and we just... clicked. I don't know; we fell in love in an instant. After a month and a half, we were already getting married. How naive, huh?"
