Sitting with Jake, Heeseung continues to scroll through the book that he had found at his grandfather's library situated 3 kilos northwest of their school. Heeseung was a part-time librarian appointed by his grandfather himself as since he was young, he'd visits this place once a day at least and by the age of 16, he knew every single corner of the place. The old man trusted his young grandson with the library matters and was quite delighted to him accepting the offer of being a librarian and looking after this place. Heeseung's perception of his grandfather had been built at a young a age. He saw the old man as a jolly and active mysterious man with a huge collection of books; mostly the ones that no one would ever read. One of these books that Heeseung was really curious about was the book about soulmates. He had seen it many times and knew exactly where it was kept but never read it as he never felt the need to or felt it was some forbidden book. Why did it feel like a forbidden book? He didn't have an answer for that. He made this excuse of not reading it when he was a kid. Even after turning 21, he never touched it as he couldn't really push away the assumption his child mind made. But today was a different case. The book needed to be opened today. It seemed like this book could help now. He was suspecting something he didn't tell Jake since he wasn't confirmed about it. The best solution was going through this book to find out.
"Demigod.... Demigod...."
He mumbles; scanning his eyes through the index.
"Found it!"
He exclaims upon finally finding the page after searching for what seemed like eternity. He quickly turns over to the page and starts reading out loud after giving Jake a heads up before doing so.
"Jake, look here! In this paragraph, it says, "Gods get to decide their soulmates but demigods have a prewritten destiny. As babies, they're sent on earth to fulfill their responsibilities and raised by a human family. To survive through their infinite living years, their fate is tied to a certain person whom they share their time with. The person gets only one week to live to find their soulmate who's anything but human. They're divine beings with inifnite living years and they're to share their time with their soulmate once they met. But here's the catch. In order to form the soulmate connection, they need to be emotionally connected. Meaning, they need to have some kind of emotional attachment to each other. This is a way for the Time System to ensure that the demigods are picking their worthy and actual partners."
Heeseung reads; putting Jake into a state of shock. He???? A demigod's soulmate???? How even???? Even yesterday, he was a regular college student who had come here all the way from Australia.... How could he be a demigod's soulmate?
"Dude, you alright?"
Heeseung questions with a subtle hint of worry in his voice as he moves his hand up and down in front of the now dazed boy who was lost in his world of thoughts.
"Huh? What?"
The boy questions back, startled. The sudden hand movement and words had snapped him back to the world but with a little bit of surprise and confusion.
"You! Are YOU alright?"
Heeseung questions again; emphasizing on the "you".
Jake, who was yet to process everything, responds with a slight nod."Look, it's already gotten dark. You should go back home. I'll do some research and let you know who your soulmate might be. Ok?"
Says the older; as he closes the book and stands up. The physics student too, stands up and slides his backpack on a shoulder.
"I'll leave now, then. See you tomorrow! Take care!"
Jake says; walking out of the library.
"You too. I promise I'll do some research and help you as much as possible. Have hopes, man. I won't let you die so easily and so early!"
The taller says in a stern voice; looking at his best friend right in the eyes. The boy nods with a blink and sad smile before walking out of the library completely. It seemed impossible to be able to find his soulmate within 6 days.
