'I can't believe she's absent today...'

Suzura thought as she stretched her neck to all corners of the classroom, jitterily checking on everyone.

They're heading out for a day trip and she had always been partners with Ayako each time, so the former's sudden absence caused internal haywire. And currently, it appears as if luck is nowhere near her side since everyone on sight is with their own partner.

"Remember! Never take off your hats and always hold hands with your partner, okay? Is everyone ready?" Teacher Rie yelled by the door, doubling Suzura's stress.

"Yes, Sensei!"

She briskly swung her head around to find someone free, but everyone already began to depart.

"Sensei! W-Wai—"

A hand reached out in front of her, stopping her from protesting.

"Hold it." Megumi mumbled, not meeting her eyes.

When she took more than two seconds of decision-making, he vehemently clutched hers instead, tugging the white-haired girl towards the door since all the others had already gone out before them.

She tightened her hold on him, noting the warmth his palm exuded. His hand was soft and his grip on her was just right; secure. Then she switched her gaze to his face, her cheeks reddening from the preternatural event.

"U-Um!" She huffed a short breath and directed her gaze ahead, in hopes of calming her racing heart—oblivious to the glance he threw out of the corner of his eyes.

As time passed by, Suzura began rocking their hands while they toured the familiar streets. And with her genuine flush and rigidity gone, she started to act all playfully.

The tendency of her staying on one spot just to thoroughly examine things is off the charts. She loves to ask questions even on inanimate objects like plants in front of shops, asking, 'Is it watered well? Are you okay, Mr. Green?'

And Megumi had no choice but to pull her to avoid falling behind.

Then he remembered.

Ayako always had this problem. Every. Single. Day trip.
