CHAPTER 18

"I don't like you! Okay?" Suzura repeated.

Puppy eyes enabled, Satoru feigned despair. He even swiped the outer corner of his eyes, pretending to wipe away his nonexistent tears which then caused panic to the little girl.

"D-Don't cry, Toru-nii!" She sniveled while holding both of his cheeks, examining his face. To hide his trickery, he closed his eyes, evading her scrutinizing gaze.

"But my baby sister hates me now..." He explained in a sullen tone, mouth pouting but if you look closely, the outer corner of his lips were faintly curled upwards.

"Yes!" Her tears flowed, trickling down her cheeks to his shirt. Satoru opened his eyes quickly when he felt the new wet spot touching his skin. "I-I will like y-you again tomorrow!" She wailed, rubbing her fist on her eyes.

Now he feels bad... and amused.

'When did she start scheduling things?'

"I'm joking, Zura-chan~" He kissed her head, then carried her out of bed to get ready. Her clothes are taken care of—courtesy of Shoko. He doesn't know if she shopped yesterday or if she's always had clothes for kids, but nonetheless, he's thankful.

Suzura sat beside the sink, facing the bathroom mirror. Her tears came to an end as she saw her appearance—damp lashes, runny nose, and red cheeks. It was like a reality check.

Then she fixed her disheveled look, ready to do their morning routine.

After almost doing this every morning, she memorized what they needed to do. First, they brush their teeth at the same time. Next, she watches her brother wash his face and once he's done, he'd come help her.

There was merely an exchange throughout the routine. It was quiet and she lacked enthusiasm, which concerned him.

'Right... She did say she'll like me tomorrow. Again, when did she start to schedule things?'

To ease her mood, Satoru thought of styling her hair. But with the lack of hair ties, he needed to improvise.

"Tadaaaah~" He cheered as they both peered at the finished product. He used his bandages to tie her hair in pigtails. And since the new bandages were exceptionally long, he perfectly ribboned the excess, making it much cuter. He wasn't entirely sure on how it would turn out earlier but now, he's quite proud of how it looks on her.
