The news had greatly shocked the pair of royals, to the point where there was a shocking silence that seemed to last at least 1-2 minutes. But in reality, it was only 30 or so seconds.

"Hm... Well.... My sincerest apologies for your loss lady Tsuyuri." The emperor began, it was clear to kanao that he wasn't finished speaking.

"And your..... 'sister'. You hesitated calling her that..... may I know why?" The emperor was more hesitant this time, most likely trying to avoid opening any sensitive topics like before.

On the other hand, the empress was as silent as ever. She had a calculating look in her eye, she seemed to be too lost in thought to even ask a single question. Even though kanao will be working for her.

'Ah, there it is.... Should I tell the truth? I could change it up. I'll only change the time of my adoption, so it seems that I just haven't gotten used to calling her my sister.'

The empress seemed hesitant. As if she was considering something.

"No." She eventually answered. However it was very clear to Kanao that she was lying.

"Lady Tsuyuri, you have two hours to tour the palace and take care of anything you need to. After that meet me in my chambers." The empress gave her orders and just like that. The interview was finished.

Normally, 2 hours to tour a palace is very little. But to Kanao, it was actually a lot. Being a demon slayer meant doing missions in unknown territory, therefore you need to learn how to navigate places by memory, know directions and being able to cover ground quickly.

So exploring the palace took just over an hour, after she was finished she headed back to her room to report back to oyakata-sama and master.
