Everything was going swimmingly for the happy new couple, everything seemed almost too perfect to be real, just like the calm before the storm. The couple had a nice rhythm to their lives as they were now, both not ready to face the music once summer ended. Once summer ended it would mean that Margot would have to go back to Paris and present her album to her label, just like Damiano would have to do with his band but in Rome. It was a sad thing that the couple had to make the ultimate decision regarding their relationship, that being to stay in a long-term relationship or both to move on once the summer is over.
To say that Margot was head over heals for Damiano was an understatement, he was everything she wished for in a boyfriend, caring, attentive, understanding, sweet and gorgeous, one could even say that she was in love with the guy. Damiano shared similar filings for her. What was stopping him from fully letting his feeling grow towards the girl was the fact that his ex-girlfriend messaged him and asked to reconcile things with him. He kept putting her off until the very fateful day things would go to shit.
It started as any normal day, Damiano was sleeping over at Margot's as he normally did. They had breakfast together, coffee and a cigarette. Once they cleaned up, they took Margot's car and drove to the band's villa where they spent the rest of their day. Vic was in the pool, Ethan was cooking, and Thomas was playing with his guitar, a melody they have heard over and over, again that according to Thomas "it needs something more". Everything was calm and everyone was enjoying each other's company. Until a knock was heard on the front door. No one was expecting anyone so once they heard the knocking all of them exchanged looks. Ethan being the nearest one to the front door went to open it, the rest of them trying tone eavesdrop to figure who it is, but nothing was heard.
Impatiently Thomas went over second to check up on Ethan, but again they were met with silence until Vic got out and decided to see what was going on. Her footsteps could be heard pattering on the cold tiles. Damiano and Margot were sat on the sofa near the fan to chill out from the hot day making their view blocked by a wall. Margot had a weird feeling, not knowing what to say or do at that specific moment. It was like she knew something doomed was waiting for her behind that knock on their front door.
Before Damiano had the chance to get up and see what was happening, a short, skinny blond came through the living room arch. "Oh, hello there darling, long time no see! What's wrong with your little band members? Why are they just staring at me like that?" – She started talking and pulled Damiano in a kiss on the lips and a hug. Margot just sat there bewildered by what was happening in front of her eyes with her boyfriend. "And who is that darling? Someone else joined the band and I was not informed?" – The blond finally noticed Margot and addressed her, but Margot was in a loss of words, still speechless from what just happened. From the corner of her eyes she could see Damiano's friends walking back to the living room with wide and pissed eyes.
"I-I am Damiano's girlfriend." – Margot got up and answered finally. The girl stared at her and scoffed. "How is that possible when I AM his girlfriend?" – she smirked. Margot scrunched her eyebrows, confused by her statement. She looked at Damiano who had his gaze towards the floor. "Excuse me?" – Margot gulped. "Yeah, I am his girlfriend. Did you not know?" – the blond pointed out. Margot was just opening and closing her mouth like a fish at this point, waiting for an answer from her boyfriend, but he was quiet. "Are you sure YOU are his girlfriend? You must have confused yourself because you are obviously delusional. I have been with Damiano for years now!" – the blond continued which made Margot's brain feel like scrambled eggs. One thing she was not good at was defending herself in confrontational situations. She turned her gaze fully at Damiano and addressed him, waiting for him to say something, but all he muttered was a quiet "sorry..." and kept his gaze towards the floor. "Well, you heard the man" – the blond shrugged. "I suppose you can leave now, because I genuinely don't know what you are doing here at this point. No one is confirming anything and knowing them they probably wanted to get rid of you anyways, so run along now!" – the girl shooed her off, noticing the tears in Margot's eyes which egged her on to further hurt her.
Margot looked at her supposed friends once more, before she left the house carefully not to bump in anyone. She didn't say a single word while exiting, her tears streamed down her face and the only thing that was going to her head was to get away as far as possible. So, she did the only thing that was rational to her at that moment, and that was to run. To run away from that villa, from that village, from those people and from that country. She drove down to her villa not looking back, not registering anything in front or around her. She parked sloppily and ran inside the house gathering things left and right. Once she packed everything and put it in her car, she locked the door and got in her car to drive down to Antonio and Vittoria's house.
When Vittoria saw the teary-eyed girl on her front porch, she engulphed her in a hug and let her cry, not seeking answers or anything, just holding her. Margot kept apologizing to the woman for her sudden departure with Vittoria assuring her that everything was fine and to take care of herself. Margot would miss her and Antonio and Tivoli and the surroundings, but she had to get away. She did not want answers from anyone, she just wanted to get away, go back to Paris and hug her father. And that is what she did. She drove without stopping for the exception of gas, tears streaming down her face while she was listening to sad Lana Del Rey songs that just kept popping up on her playlist. She drove nonstop until she saw the comfort of the sign saying she is entering Paris.
As much as Italy was her home, she started loathing the place, she associated the place with betrayal and a broken heart, not just from a relationship, but from broken friendships as well. Margot finally felt like she belonged somewhere, but everything was swept from under her feet. She was thinking the whole drive, did she act too fast? Was she supposed to wait for a response? But she knew how real friendships work, she knew how a friend was supposed to stand up for her and they did nothing. They just stood there and listened to that girl belittle her. Her heart was aching, her head was aching, but she knew everything would be better once she hugged her father.
He was waiting for her at the front door, having previously received a call from Vittoria informing him of his daughter's departure. She ran to his arms, seeking refuge and started to cry her eyes out. He was the only person there for her, through thick or thin. Through every success and every fail. He was her papa, and she could never replace him in her life. He will always be there for her. It broke her father's heart to have his little girl cry her eyes out on the front porch, to hold her as she cried over heartbreak and betrayal. He did not want to know details, all he cared about was making her feel safe and sound. And that is what he did. He took her inside, got her in a robe and sat her on the sofa. Her cat Diggory made himself comfortable on her lap while her dad went on to make some tea for her. Margot was till in tears when he got back. All her father did was hand her the tea and embraced her to his side while she cried her eyes. All three of them together like they always are...
The only people she needed and wanted...
