"Remember when I asked you to marry me when we were younger? I'm still holding onto your answer for the future."

-Zachary Tyler

Zachary's P.O.V

"Madeline let me in. . .please," I whispered, leaning my head against the chilled metal stall of the girls' bathroom.

It was the third time that she had thrown up today.

Her breathing was unsteady, coming in heavy pants with panic laced between each forced breath. The type of breathing pattern that would have any guy worried sick over their previous person.

I could hear her coughs, charging and hitching its way up her throat forcefully; making my heart beat faster and faster by the second.

The sound of her brisk and nimble footsteps echoed throughout the pink-tiled bathroom, intertwined with the knocking of my fists against the object that separated us both.

"Zachary I'm fine! I'll meet you at lunch, just give me a few more minutes!" She yelled, flushing the toilet for what seemed like the tenth time.

"Every guy knows that when a girl says they're 'fine', it's the complete opposite. Just open the door and let me help you!" I couldn't help but let my voice raise with the amount of frustration and worry that was overwhelming me.

"You can't see me like this. . . No, I won't let you."

For the first time in a long time, everything was silent.

It was just her and I.

And the longing of each other's embrace.

"You could shave your head bald, lose your Goddess-like figure and have all your facial features rearranged and I'd still see you as the most beautiful girl in the world."

And the truth was that I meant it.

With every single inch of my body.

She slowly slid the lock and moved away as the stall door swung and hit the wall. As if on cue, my feet moved towards her body and I towered her slightly, resting my hand on the back of her trembling shoulder.

"How are you feeling?"

She coughed once again and I slapped her back lightly, helping her to get everything out.

"I'm weak, look at my hands." She turned around and faced me, making my gaze focus on the shaking fingers, that couldn't seem to stop no matter how hard they tried.

I held her small porcelain hands in my own and mustered the most re-assuring smile that I could possibly pull together,"Everything is going to be okay, alright? I'm with you every step of the way and you'll have my hand to hold onto for the rest of your life, no need to start worrying at this point of time."

She sealed her eyes shut and took a deep breath, smiling with water tipping slowly from her weary blue eyes,"Promise?"

I kissed our interlaced hands and nodded,"I promise."

But that was probably the biggest mistake that I could have ever made.

Because in a matter of seconds, I watched her fall to the ground helplessly with her muscle contractions coming out tense.

Her fists were clutched closed.

The convulsion caused her body to jerk in a disoriented way.

And lastly, I watched the love of my life lose all consciousness.
