Please note that the prologue is the only part of this story that will be written in the third person point of view.
"Every time I make a wish, it involves you."
-Madeline Peyton
"Why must all good things come to an end?" Madeline whispered, leaning in close to Zachary's ear. She brought her legs up closer to her body in an attempt of preserving some of her body heat. When the wind blew and bit the tips of her cheeks, Zachary would always lean over and plant a small kiss; leaving a trail of warmth.
"Because not all good things can last forever cupcake. When something comes to an end, an incredible beginning is just around the corner." Zachary removed his hands from behind his head and re-positioned them to support Madeline. Madeline snuggled her head into his chest and breathed in his comforting scent.
"Would you ever leave me, if something were to. . .happen?" Madeline lifted her head briefly from the layers of his clothing and brushed the maple-brown strands from his eyes, to get a better view of him.
The perfect view.
Zachary shook his head the faintest bit and slowly closed his eyes, as the autumn leaves rumbled from the strong air currents and as the trees sung softly alongside the lullaby of the wind.
"Why would that question ever cross your mind? When you were in your darkest hours and when you were at your worst, I never left your side." Zachary furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and stroked Madeline's hair, removing the specks of shriveled leaves.
"Have you ever gotten that unsettling feeling, when you know something bad is going to happen in the future?" She distanced herself from Zachary and sat up, brushing and clapping the dirt from the palm of her hands.
Zachary sat up alongside her and froze, lost for words-not knowing what to say to his childhood best-friend to make the apprehension go away.
"It's almost as if the feeling. . .planted itself in my heart and mind."
Zachary usually always knew what to say and what to do to make Madeline see the sunshine at the end of the tunnel.
But this situation was different.
Because the same feeling that was planted in Madeline, began to sprout in Zachary.
