"It's not about finding someone who won't fight with you or make you sad. It's about finding the person who will still be standing there wiping the tears away, holding you in their arms after a fight and the one who will never leave, no matter how hard things get."

-Unknown

Madeline's P.O.V

"Who knew that it was possible for a girl to look as beautiful as you do now," Zachary whispered, letting his piercing blue orbs take in my appearance as crimson shaded my cheeks.

I tucked a loose strand of my newly straightened hair behind my ear and smiled,  feeling the material of the gold cashmere dress dance against my skin as the night breeze drew closer.

It was when the golden specks of the masterpiece I was wearing, glowed in the midnight sky, that I realized how truly lucky I was to have someone like Zachary in my life.

He made me feel like I was the only girl in the world.

The only girl that mattered in his life.

And he made me feel priceless.

Even when I was dying, he didn't plan on abandoning me.

But instead, he wanted to live each day with me like it was our last and make each second worthwhile.

And that was what gave me the strength to muster a smile and take his hand as I leaned on him for support, knowing that I couldn't make it on my own without him.

"Are you sure you want to go in there? I don't mind taking you out to one of your favorite restaurants where there will be less of a crowd." Zachary turned to me and wore a worried expression on his face, taking note of my weak and unstable state.

I nodded my head and sighed deeply,"I'm dying Zachary. Once I'm gone, I'll never be able to experience this again."

A weary glint flashed through his eyes and he stepped out of the car, shutting the door behind him. He made his way over towards my side and opened the door for me like the gentleman he was.

I coughed in the sleeve of my dress and rubbed my arms together slightly, trying to regain the heat and warmth my body once had.

Zachary peeled the tuxedo jacket from his body and wrapped it around me. He held me close to his side and planted a kiss on my forehead,"This is the first time that they're going to see our faces in forever."

I pulled the fabric closer to my skin and inhaled his scent,"And the last time that they'll see mine too."

Zachary stepped in front of me as he shoved the drunken teens out the way and threw threatening glares at the guys who were eyeing me with thirst clear in their eyes.

"Madeline, where have you been?"

"It's like you two disappeared off the face of the earth!"

"Did you guys sleep with each-other yet?"

"Shut the fuck up!" Zachary yelled, silencing everyone as his voice thundered throughout the crowd. "I need everyone to take a step back before I go bat-shit crazy and knock out everyone's two front teeth."

I sighed gratefully internally, knowing that the crowd wouldn't help with my short breaths and my body's ability to loose its strength in a matter of seconds.

"I have a serious announcement to make." Zachary glanced over at me and held his head down. "Madeline and I won't be returning after tonight."

Girls fainted and guys gave me questioning looks.

Teachers spilled their drinks and the principal's horrified eyes bulged out.

The music was cut off abruptly and one of the sheer curtains ripped from the ceiling.

"Madeline was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer and only has a matter of time before she leaves us all," He voiced quietly, intensely fixing his glare at the ground.

I snapped up at him out of shock and suddenly realized what he was saying,"What are you talking about? You have to come back, especially since graduation is in less than three months."

Zachary finally lifted his head but turned away again,"Madeline, if you aren't in this world. . ." His voice cracked at the last word and he ran his fingers through his shiny black streaks. "Then it isn't worth living in without you. I'm not coming back and that's final."

I wrapped my weak arms around his strong, muscular one and squeezed it,"Why are you planning on throwing away your future huh? I would never want you to do that, your mother wouldn't want that and your father would shoot you dead if you ever even thought about that!"

I was now sobbing unattractively and pouring my heart out to the one person who mattered the most in the crowd,"Do you not know how bright your future is right now? And you're going to throw it all away because of some useless, irrelevant person like myself?"

Zachary's head whipped up conveying the amount of hurt that resided in his eyes,"Do you hear yourself right now Madeline? If only you knew how much you really meant to me, to everyone here right now."

He pulled me to his chest and wrapped his arms around my waist,"I'm in love with you Madeline Peyton and I could say it all over again for the rest of my life. You are the sun to my sky and you're the eraser to my pencil because you're that damn nerdy. When you walked into my life I would have never imagined in a million years, that you would have this kind of effect on me, this impact."

His lips crashed against my own and I lit up inside as they moved in a steady rhythm. They danced and meshed together perfectly, making this moment one that would be impossible to ever forget.

I could feel all his emotions and words, dripping and lacing in between each breath as we both struggled to pull back from each other.

He wanted more.

I wanted more.

And I then realized that Zachary Tyler was the only person that could make my life complete.

It was almost an irony.

I pulled back involuntarily and savored the taste of his lips against mine and blushed for the millionth time when the crowd erupted with cheers.

We barely made it through the first half of prom but I already had the time of my life.

I placed my head on his beating heart and pressed myself against him like it would be one of the last times that I would ever be in his arms again.

"I love you too."
