Chapter Thirty
"What is wrong with you Jasmine? Are you even paying attention to what I'm saying?" snapped Aunt Lucy for the umpteenth as she drew her eyebrows together in frustration. It seemed that no matter how many times she barked at Jasmine, her eyes remained glued to the TV screen, hypnotised by the ridiculous reality show she was watching. Lately, that was all she had done during her free time.
"Of course she's not paying attention. Anyone with eyes can tell she is obsessed with that pretty boy who can't stand an ounce of her presence," snickered the brown haired teenage boy as he appeared into the living room. "You know, I was surprised that he even kissed you. If I was him, I wouldn't have touched you with a ten foot pole," he added while snatching the remote control from the couch before changing the channel.
His actions immediately earned him a death glare and a smack in the head from Jasmine. "Watch what you say you little dipshit! I left the show because I wanted to; it had nothing to do with him!" she defended while trying to grab the remote control back from him. "Besides, it's none of your business."
Tyler sighed dramatically knowing full well his sister was starting to get pissed. Of course, that only made him want to tease her more. "Aww, unrequited love... How sad, I suppose there is always next year..." he drawled while quickly dodging his sister's attacks. Then to push her buttons further, he spoke in an octave higher, mocking her voice. "Oh Alec I'm so in love with you, but I'm too ugly and so out of your lea-" Without warning a pink cushion hit him in the face. That action merely made him clutch his stomach and burst into heaps of laughter. "Oh yeah, you really do like him... Too bad there is no next year because he probably found his girl."
Jasmine face grew crimson red as anger boiled throughout her body at the onslaught of her brother's rude remarks. She was just about ready to punch her brother in the face when Aunt Lucy's voice boomed through the living room. "That is enough! Both of you, be civil and apologize!"
"But he started it!" protested Jasmine, knowing full well her Aunt wouldn't give a damn who started it. Of course deep down she knew the logical thing to do was simply to make up with her brother and stop acting childish, but these days, he brought out the worst in her.
Aunt Lucy shook her head in dismay. "Jazzy, you're twenty-one years old! Get yourself together and don't act so immature. You're lucky that I'm even allowing you to stay here until all your problems are sorted out," she said in a firm tone before her green eyes flickered to Tyler. "You yourself also need to control your behaviour and be more courteous to your sister. Now I won't tolerate bullying in this house, the two of you make up now!"
After a minute of thick silence, Tyler was the first to speak. "I'm sorry dear sister..." he said slowly before his face cracked into a large smirk, "That you aren't attractive enough to even get a guy." Then without another word, he sprinted out of the room before their aunt could call him out.
"You little prick! When I get my hands on you, you are so dead!" muttered Jasmine furiously before she too stormed out, leaving poor Aunt Lucy exasperated. It seemed that no matter how hard she tried, she could never get the two siblings under her control. Once they started fighting, it was near impossible to break it up.
Jasmine breathed heavily as she stepped out of the house and slammed the door behind her in frustration. A month had almost past since she left California and she couldn't necessarily say she stress free. Although she could breathe a lot easier now that Alec was out of her life, her brother was still being a constant pain in the butt. Obviously he had way too much hormones in his system to function like a normal person.
Sitting down on the front steps of her porch, Jasmine heaved a sigh. As much as she wanted to pin the blame on Tyler for their constant fighting, she knew that she was also at fault too. At the end of the day, it was obvious that neither she nor her brother had adjusted to their new home and lifestyle. They went so long without an adult to take care of them that they were just not used to having anyone tell them what to do on a daily bases. She was also sure that Tyler had trouble leaving his friends in Chicago and going to a brand new school in some next State. After all, she had to face the exact same predicament when she had to tell Natalia that she was moving away.
