Chapter Twenty Eight
Sudden bright lights stabbed against Jasmine’s eyelids, stirring her out of her dream state. For a moment she pondered the idea of getting out of bed, but staying under her warm covers seemed like a better option. The moment she groggily turned her back against the sharp illumination to continue sleeping, a female voice suddenly cut through the silent room.
“Jasmine! Get up! There’s an emergency and I have no idea what to do!” yelled Eva poking at the covers.
She groaned in response and pulled the blanket over her face. What could possibly be so urgent that her roommate had to wake her up this early in the morning? Just as she asked herself that question, the cover was yanked down again.
“Hello? Are you awake there?”
This better be good... Thought Jasmine feeling completely irritated that her beauty sleep was getting ruined. Finally, with a whole lot of effort, she forced her eyes open. To her dismay everything seemed normal, the world was not on fire nor did it stop spinning, so obviously whatever ‘major’ problem Eva was yelling about did not need her immediate attention. The only thing that looked out of the odd was the luggage bags she was carrying with her. With a sigh Jasmine spoke, “What do you want? I didn’t wake up just for a false emergency.”
Eva gave a sad smile. “Okay maybe I am being a bit over dramatic, but I’m leaving the show and heading home today. Yesterday I got a call from my dad saying that my mom had a recent heart attack and her condition is still deteriorating, so I bought a last minute ticket back to Florida. My plane is leaving in about two hours, though I’m heading to the airport now,” she explained somberly.
All of the suddenly, Jasmine felt bad for being so cranky at Eva for waking her up. Of course she couldn’t leave without saying good-bye. Getting out of bed, she hugged her friend tightly before speaking. “I’m really going to miss you then. I hope you have a safe travel, call me when you get home.”
“I will,” nodded Eva before biting the bottom of her lips in guilt as she thought of Jasmine staying here all alone. "I really hate to be the one ditching you here with Alec, especially when I tried to convince you not to leave before. Good luck with Alec though.”
The mention of his name made Jasmine’s heart flutter, but at the same time it brought back fresh memories of last night’s drama. Anger coursed through her veins at thought of what Elliot had told her. It was something unforgiveable. “Ah don’t worry about me; I’m planning to leave soon too. I don’t think I can stand another week in this hell hole without a sane person,” she joked half heartedly. “Besides it’s about time I head home as well, my mom and brother needs to be taken care of. I don’t think my best friend can support them any longer.”
Eva laughed, “Aw it’s not too bad. In fact, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think you should stay a little while longer. Alec doesn’t seem like such a bad guy after all, I think he kind of likes you now,” she teased, remembering the early morning’s events.
Jasmine’s eyebrows pulled together in confusion. “What are you talking about? What happened early in the…” she trailed off suddenly realization that she didn’t come back to this room after her encounter with Alec’s grandfather last night. In fact, she was almost sure that she had cuddled herself on a couch in the library, so now the question remains how she got from there to here. “What happened?” she demanded looking up at Eva.
The girl suddenly giggled with a knowing smile after she mentioned that subject, “Oh nothing really… only that Alec ruined my much needed sleep by banging on the door at two a.m. in the morning with you sleeping in his arms. It was kind of cute,” she replied smiling.
