Chapter Twenty-One

“Are you done yet? My head itches!” exclaimed Jasmine who was impatiently waiting to scratch her head as her stylist slapped continued on fixing the position of the pinup flower that was in her hair.

“Ah, I’m just about done, but if you dare touch your hair again, not only will you be late for Alec’s party, but you’ll have to suffer the consequences for it as well,” replied Roger as he slapped Jasmine’s hand away from her hair. After another minute of silence, he finally dropped his arms to his sides and stepped back to look at the final masterpiece he had created. Stifling out a large grin, he quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her towards a large mirror in the corner of the room.

The moment that Jasmine stepped in front of the mirror was the moment that the itch on her head vanished. She simply gasped at her appearance. The girl that was staring at her didn’t seem real. She was beautiful, but in a natural sort of way… Her skin seemed to glow radiantly with perfection, while her brilliant blue eyes seemed to be the center stage of her face. Clearly the makeup artists had done a fine job covering up the blemishes that she had, but was careful not to put too much of it at the same time.

Jasmine also took notice of her dark hair which was neatly pinned up into a French twist, followed by the flower that Roger had delicately clipped on. She chuckled when she recognized the flower as a jasmine and realized the irony of it. Slowly, her eyes trailed lower down the mirror and soon she found herself memorized by the elegant dress she wore. It was a ruffled one shoulder cocktail dress made up of purple silk and lace that trailed down to her mid-thighs. To match with her dress, she had worn two purple stilettos that Roger had convinced her to wear. Even with much practice walking in them, she still felt as if she was walking on two sticks.

It was on rare occasions that Jasmine ever wore or dressed up in anything nice. Even then, she wouldn’t care much for her personal appearance and would only plaster some makeup here and there. Suddenly, Jasmine felt a lump in her throat and she wanted to cry with joy, but she knew that Roger would kill her if she ruined her makeup. This was one of the few times that she felt truly confident with herself.

Taking a deep breath in, she turned around and embraced Roger tightly. “Thanks so much,” she whispered, “I feel like a princess.”

Roger chuckled, “Well princess, I’m glad to be your fairy god father, but really, it’s my pleasure in helping you get ready for tonight. I’m sure you’ll probably turn a lot of heads with your new look,” he said with a wink before glancing at his watch. “Right now it’s a quarter to six, so I’m guessing Alec’s guests would be arriving soon. This means that you have about fifteen minutes of spare time before the party starts.”

Jasmine gave Roger a questioning look, “Wait, are you saying that there’s more people going to his party?”

He laughed, “Young grasshopper, you have much to learn… I mean of course there’s going to be more people! It wouldn’t be a fun party with just us, now would it be?”  And besides, getting you ready for it wouldn’t have taken half as long if there wasn’t anyone else that you needed to impress other then Alec,” he explained.

Jasmine frowned, “Why….who else do I need to impress?”

Roger sighed dramatically as if the answer was right in front of her face, “Well you need to look good in front of the paparazzi…and uh…in front of pretty much everyone who arrives on this island.”

Just as Jasmine grimaced at the thought of trying to impress people, the door across the room suddenly flew open, revealing a very pissed off person, “Hey Jazzy, are you sure you want to go through with the party?” asked Eva looking as if she was ready to kick someone’s ass.
