I peeked out from behind the tree I was hiding behind. I felt for my horns, which were small and black. I watched as the boy struck the hilichurls with his spear, me blushing in the slightest bit. He seems so strong. I moved to hide behind the tree again.

I was wearing a dark blue flowy dress that went to the middle of my thighs, the bottom ripped and torn. It was originally longer, but time had worn it out. I had a ring on with my vision in it, small so I could hide it if needed. My hair was like a crow's feather, black but glinting different shades of blue and purple in the sunlight. It reached to my lower back. I inherited my crimson, fresh blood red eyes from my mom.

"Freeze, demon!"

I quickly slid down the tree, covering my horns with my hands. "I'm sorry, I was just watching, I swear!"

"Look in the eyes when you're talking to an adepti." He lifted my chin with the tip of his spear. "You look oddly human..."

I opened my eyes, looking into his. This is the first time he's been so close to me! His eyes are such an interesting shade of yellow, and I can see every blue strand of hair that I couldn't from far away! He smells like cinnamon and gingerbread... oh, no, I can feel myself blushing! I looked away. He got incredibly close to me, sniffing.

"You smell of both human and demon." He growled, using one hand to cover his eyes. "What do I do with you..?"

I gently moved the spear away from my neck, making him open his fingers to look at me with one eye. "M-maybe we could talk, if you wouldn't mind... I promise I won't try to escape..."

"I don't trust you, demon." He glared at me.

I sighed. It was worth a try. I put my hood up, which I had sewn to my dress. It was so I could hide my horns to do small errands like buying food or fabric shopping, if I had enough money. He moved the spear away from me, making me look at him.

"I'm putting you on a trial period. You have to stay by my side and not walk more than six feet away from me. If you do, I will slay you where you stand."

I tilted my head. "Why so? I thought you didn't do things like this."

"Well, I'm confused on what in Barbatos' name you are, so I'm going to try to figure out if you are a threat or not during this time."

I looked down, tearing up. "Y-you could have phrased it differently... that just sounded rude..."

I hiccuped, making him jump. "Hey, don't cry- I didn't mean to- please, stop-"

He gently patted my head, making me look at him to see he was looking away. I blinked before reaching my hand out, softly running my fingers along the tattoo on his right arm. He looked at me again before withdrawing his hand.

"Alright, come on."

He grabbed my hand, launching me up. I fiddled with the rim of my hood, him letting go of my hand. I checked my bag, going through and counting my mora before grabbing my other bag. I felt him press his spear against my back.

"Did you not hear what I said, monster?"

"I would like to run my daily errands, if you do not mind." I looked at him.
