Sophie POV
Her jacket was wrapped tightly around her body, soaking in the warmth. A burgundy canvas tote bag hung from Sophie's shoulder, filled with a box of candy canes, Hershey's Cookies and Cream bars, Sour Patch Kids, and a variety of Airheads.
Sophie had collected the candy assortment at the university corner store, taking refuge from the bitter cold. She continued her breath chilling journey back to her dorm room where Maylee was packing up some of her belongings in preparation to go back home for the holiday break.
This evening, they were attending Maylee's family Christmas party, which Sophie had invited Biana and her friends to. She still didn't understand how Maylee could be so comfortable with letting people she had never even met once into her family house.
Bringing herself back to reality, Sophie twisted the doorknob, walking into a flurry of madness.
Maylee had three rolls of wrapping paper rolled out on the floor, one of which was only an empty cardboard tube now. Christmas music was blasting, sure to disturb whoever was sitting in their dorms currently, several oddly wrapped objects around the room, and Maylee in the middle of all the chaos, wrapping something out of Sophie's sight with fluorescent red paper.
Hearing the door open, Maylee gasped, grabbing the half wrapped present and twisting it out of sight even more.
"It would be nice if you knocked! I may or may not have been wrapping something for someone specific that you are not supposed to see yet!" she huffed.
Rolling her eyes, Sophie responded, "Well I'm sorry, I thought this was my dorm too!" She placed the sugar filled bag on the table, a smile on her face. Maylee taped off the last side of wrapping paper, scribbling something quickly on the name tag before sliding it into the small pile of presents.
Bouncing up from the floor, Maylee trotted over to the table, peeking into the bag of sweets. She looked up smiling at Sophie.
"Thank you," she cooed. "We're leaving for my house in fifteen, so anything you need to do before you should do now."
She grinned back, "I'll go grab the cards." The deck of cards was sitting open on Sophie's bed, and picking it up, one card fell from the box onto the ground. It fluttered to the floor, landing just in front of Maylee.
The six of hearts.
They locked eyes, Maylee's lips parting before Sophie began to laugh. Maylee shook her head, and a small grin grew on her face. She bent down, picking up her losing card and handing it to the blonde.
"You really suck at cards, you know that?" Sophie cackled, placing the card with the rest of the deck and closing the box. Maylee threw her hands up in exasperation.
