Forrest stared at his paper blankly resting his head on his hand as the song in his headphones changed again. He jumped in surprise as he was tapped. He quickly looked to his teacher taking his headphones out "um yes Mrs. Anderson?"
Mrs. Anderson tapped his paper "Forrest if you dont finish this and turn in your late work youll fail the semester. Do you not understand it? I'm sure I could help you."
Forrest shook his head "uh no. I got it." He flashed a smile then quickly packed his things as the bell rang.
Mrs. Anderson sighed softly "Mister Cahn. Please stay after class."
Forrest froze mid-step then groaned quietly and went back to his seat slumping down in it.
Mrs. Anderson waited for everyone to leave then closed the door and looked at him "Forrest is everything okay at home? Is there a reason you're not doing your work?"
Forrest looked at her blankly "uh.. what?"
Mrs. Anderson walked to him and sat in the seat next to him "you know if you're getting hurt at home you can tell me right? I can make it better"
Forrest stared at her dumbfounded "my parents are amazing. My sisters are the best. The reason I'm not doing my work is because im damn lazy not because someone is hitting me or something." He got up glaring at her "And the fact that you would even think that doesn't change the fact that I think your class is nothing but filler and is pointless! I dont give a damn about a war that happened over a hundred years ago lady! Now I'm going to leave. And if you try and stop me I will tell the principal youre getting very inappropriate with students" he walked out slamming the door behind him angrily.
Forrest walked outside and put his headphones in silently walking down the street.
River ran to him and hugged him tightly "My adorable baby brotherrrr!"
Forrest winced and pushed at her "get offffff!"
River smiled and pulled his headphones out carefully tucking them away in her pockets "so tell me what happened. Why are you out late today normally you can't wait to get out of there."
Forrest glared at the ground and walked silently
River followed him and tilted her head "you know we've all hated middle school when we were in it right?"
Forrest scoffed "yeah well I bet your teachers never said your family was abusing you because you hated their class."
River gasped softly and watched him concerned "are you okay forrest?"
Forrest looked to her then looked away quickly "im fine I hate my history teacher."
River frowned a bit and walked with him quietly "you know dad is gonna ask if you wanna join us. You might feel better after wacking a ball around"
Forrest looked up to her curiously "how would that make me feel better and mom wouldn't let me unless I did my homework"
River giggled softly "mom can be persuaded"
Forrest looked at the ground walking with her quietly "i dont want to play baseball i dont know how"
River smiled and hugged him "well thats why you have big sisters silly. We can teach you how to play softball and thats basically the same thing" she smiled brightly "and you can easilly ask dad to do something different with you. Hes very flexible like that. I mean when I wanted to be a cheerleader instead of a softball player like Briar and Hazel he helped me practice."
Forrest thought quietly before hugging back "ill ask dad about it" he looked up to her "thanks youre one of the best sisters ever!"
River laughed and poked his cheek "I think you mean the best right?"
Forrest laughed "nope! I have three sisters and they are all the best!"
River grinned and walked inside "come on!"
Forrest hesitated at the door then walked in and went to Craig "uh. Dad?" He hesitated again and looked to River nervously
River grinned and flashed two thumbs up whispering softly "you got this bro." She went to her room smiling brightly
Forrest watched her leave quietly then looked back to Craig nervously "dad i dont want to do baseball and I hate history why do I have to learn about a bunch if dead people from like a hundred years ago. I think its stupid!"
