Chapter One - The God of Freaks Loves Aliens.
Song - "Anything but Ordinary" by Avril Lavigne.
Scarlet Hood, a shadow among dim lights, walked down the dark misty street. The cracks in the pavement had given it the illusion of tiny streams in a gray valley. Very few cars zoomed by, most of them likely heading home to have dinner and talk to their family. Hallyhill, a small, Washington town didn't have much traffic anyway, or people for that matter.
The young girl pulled her red jacket closer to her, trying to shield herself from the autumn wind. Although, the hood had done nothing to help keep her hair in place; stray rusty brown strands rushed around her face, covering her stormy gray eyes that strained to see through the fast approaching darkness.
She was like a cat, mysterious and calm on the outside but on the inside she was on edge and her guard was up.
The wind seemed to have carried her name, calling her, "Scarlet."
It only made the sickening feeling in the back of throat had grown. She could sense she was being watched. She shivered at the thought.
She felt better as soon as she came around the corner. The large wooden fence no longer blocked her view. The cafe' stood in the darkness. The windows glowed like beacons waiting for a special arrival.
She wasn't sure why her guardians had decided to choose Hallyhill to stay in. The town was small, dark and spooky. Nearly every building looked as if it was on its last leg and deserted. But at least she had some kind of life there, she felt safer than she'd ever remembered feeling on the road.
The small town seemed to keep the creatures that lurk in the shadows away from her thoughts. Rather it was the people or the actual town she didn't know.
But that night it couldn't stop them. She sped up, her walk long and quick. She opened the entrance to the cafe', a small, wooden door with a bell at the top.
Everything was flooded with music and the casual chat among the few guests they had. She could hear over the remix music, two old men were discussing something that had sounded like politics, and children squealed as they played with one another.
If she thought it was hard to see outside, the dim light inside wasn't much better. The yellow light gave it an eerie feeling, that or it could have been Scarlet's imagination running in overdrive.
She scanned the scene, and kept out of the way of the guests. She knew exactly who she was looking for, a tall, sleepy headed blond, with a stupid smile and a caring voice of a father.
