Kara is in her office typing up an article when it happens. She hears her door open but ignores it to finish getting her thoughts down. When she finally looks up from her computer, she finds piercing green eyes staring at her.
There is a very small child, no more than 3, sitting in one of the chairs across from her. The little girl has her very dark hair hanging over her shoulders and her head tilts as she watches Kara.
Kara looks at the almost familiar little girl confused, "Hi. Can I help you with something?"
The girl shakes her head and continues looking at the blonde.
"Are you lost?" Kara tries again.
The girl shakes her head again.
"Are you here with your parents?" The little girl nods and then turns to look around the office.
"Here, why don't you draw me a picture and I'll see if I can find who you belong to." Kara says pulling out a piece of printer paper and some colored pencils she keeps in her desk and sliding them to the child.
The girl seems to agree as she takes the materials and leans on the desk to start coloring. Kara sends out an office wide email about the kid and settles back into her writing.
When Kara looks up to check on the little girl as she puts the final touches on her story her heart melts. The child had half her body curled on the desk as she laid on her arm and slept. Taking a quick picture of the adorable sight to send Alex, Kara sits scrolling through her phone. A few minutes later three things happen in rapid succession. First the door to her office flies open, startling the child awake and she immediately jumps off the desk and sprints to hide behind Kara's chair.
The man who opened the door, an intern everyone calls Tony that she recognizes from a staff meeting the week before, is out of breath and yells, "There you are!"
"Whoa! What is going on?"
"Come on kid. It's almost lunch, your mom is going to be looking for you soon." Tony says to the hiding little girl. As soon as he moves to step closer, she whimpers, and Kara may not know what's going on but if the kid is scared of this guy, then she's not about to let the guy take her.
Kara stands and steps into his way to stop him, "I don't mind her hanging out in here, why don't you just let her mom know where she can find us."
"Miss Grant told me to watch the kid while she's in a meeting with her mom. I need to take her back to the conference room until the meeting is over." He says sounding annoyed and the little girl does not sound at all okay going anywhere with this man.
"Look, Tony, she was drawing a picture for me, and she hasn't finished so she's going to stay and draw. You can tell her mom that she's safe with me in my office, but that little girl isn't going anywhere with you." Kara says drawing a little Supergirl into her words, daring the man to argue.
"I'm not about to let that little fucker get me fired." He argues and Kara has to stop herself from punching him as her anger flares.
"Thanks for stopping by Tony," Kara says, grabbing his shoulder a little harder than necessary and leading him to the door, "We'll see you around."
Kara puts him out in the hall and closes her door. When she turns back to her desk she sees the little girl, peeking out from behind her chair. Deciding to let the kid calm down, Kara silently sits in her chair. Pulling out another piece of printer paper Kara grabs a pencil and starts drawing the girl from when she first saw her in the office. It only takes a couple minutes for the child to get curious and walk over to see what Kara is drawing. Kara smiles and shows her before grabbing the paper the kid was drawing on before and putting it next to hers with a pencil. The girl smiles and makes grabby hands to be picked up. Kara scoops her up and adjusts the girl on her lap before turning back to her drawing.
20 minutes later an annoyed Lena Luthor walks into the office to the most adorable sight. Her daughter is sitting on cub reporter Kara Danvers' lap laughing at something the blonde said while they are both coloring. Smiling, Lena leans against the door frame to watch her daughter and waits to be noticed. It doesn't take Kara long to realize they aren't alone anymore and look up, smiling when she sees Lena.
"Lena! What can we do for you?" The blonde asks as she pokes the little girl's sides making her laugh. Before she can answer her daughter looks up and her eyes light up at the sight of her mom. Squealing, she makes grabby hands, not bothering to get up from Kara's lap.
"I just stopped by to see if Liza wants to go get some lunch, but she looks like she's having a great time here with you. I'd hate to interrupt." Lena says not moving from her spot, causing Liza to start pouting on Kara's lap.
"Oh no, she's very hungry but we've been waiting for her mom to get out of a meeting. How do you know this cute little monster?" Kara asks glancing at Lena but keeping her attention on Liza.
Lena looks surprised for a moment before she smirks, "Well we've had a great relationship since she was born but I think the 9 months she spent in my uterus really helped."
Lena watches as Kara figures it out and blushes, "So you're the mysterious mom we've been waiting for."
"I am." Lena confirms and then looks at Kara curiously, "You had no idea who she was, but you took her from her sitter? Are you in the habit of kidnapping children, Miss Danvers?" Lena teases.
"What?! NO!" Kara yells and at Liza's whimper she quiets, "Sorry, No. I don't know what Tony told you, but she found me. She just walked into my office and sat down and wouldn't tell me anything, I still haven't heard her talk yet by the way. Anyways I gave her some paper so she could draw, and I sent an email out to find who she belonged to and finished my article. By the time I finished she was sleeping so I was just kinda chillin and then Tony came in and woke her up and she seemed pretty scared of him, so I told him I'd keep an eye on her and walked him out. And then we started drawing."
Lena smiles while Kara explains because the blonde is unconsciously comforting Liza while she talks, and the surprising part is that Liza seems okay with it, sinking further into Kara.
"I'm not sure I believe that Liza took any kind of nap in here but thank you for looking after her." Lena tells the blonde gratefully.
"Oh she did. It was absolutely adorable, so I had to take a picture. I hope you don't mind, I sent it to my sister." Kara says, pulling the picture up.
Lena moves closer to the desk and smiles looking at the picture, "It's fine, you're right she's adorable. I don't think she's ever fallen asleep that easily for anyone but me."
"I don't think it had anything to do with me, I think she was just exhausted." Kara smiles, poking Liza's cheeks and making her smile. They are interrupted by her tummy grumbling and Kara laughs, "Well you should probably get some food in her before she withers away to nothing. I have some research to do anyway."
Lena rounds the desk and chuckles, "Thank you, Kara. Really. I'm glad she had you to look out for her."
"I'm glad I could be here." Kara smiles and moves to give Liza to her mom but before Kara can lift her the little girl turns and gives Kara a big hug.
"Feel free to come visit if you're ever in the building." Kara whispers to the little girl. Liza ends the hug and turns to jump in her mom's arms and Kara smiles, "Bye Liza, I'll see you around."
Liza waves and Lena chuckles, "Bye Kara."
"Bye Lena." Kara laughs as Lena and Liza walk out of the office.
