~L-Corp Lena's Office~
The next morning Lena was sitting in her office trying to work on budgets for L-Corp's projects but her mind was too busy. She didn't have a chance to process yesterday but now she couldn't stop thinking about Kara being Supergirl, how had she not seen it? It was so hard to imagine sweet, innocent, fragile Kara as an indestructible alien, especially after yesterday. Kara is an alien! That's why she was always so defensive about alien rights.
Lena had a headache from all the thoughts swimming in her head and she almost missed it when there was a knock on her door. She didn't have any meetings and she wasn't going to be able to focus on whoever it was so she ignored it.
She heard another knock, this time a little louder.
"I'm busy. Make an appointment with Jess." she says without looking up from her papers.
Kara opened the door a little, "Hey Jess said you weren't doing anything important but I can come back later if you want."
As soon as Lena heard her voice she froze and her thoughts were flying so fast her head may as well have been empty. When she looked up, she saw Kara standing nervously in the door and it snapped her out of her trance.
"No it's fine come in; I just gave myself a bit of a headache earlier."
"Did you remember to eat breakfast this morning?" Kara asks with concern clear in her voice.
"Umm I believe breakfast was a nice cup of coffee." Lena replies still in thought, "No that was yesterday, today was a glass of scotch, yesterday was a long day." She corrects herself understanding why she has a headache and subconsciously facepalming herself for telling the blonde.
"Lena! It's a good thing I came prepared, I brought doughnuts." Kara says as she walks over to the couch and lifts the white paper bag she's carrying. When she gets to the couch she sits down and starts getting the doughnuts out.
"Mmm yum." Lena says looking at the food as she walks over and joins Kara on the couch.
They both start eating and making small talk while avoiding everything that happened yesterday. When they finish eating an awkward silence fills the room as Kara cleans everything up. When she finishes, she goes back to the couch and sits next to Lena, "I think we need to talk about yesterday."
"What do you remember?" Lena asks testing the waters.
"Not everything. I remember CatCo and seeing an angel. Then I woke up and had a headache."
"Damn it! Supergirl told me you were fine. She even pretended to be you so I'd leave the building." Lena exaggerates trying to keep the smile off her face when Kara's face hits her hand and makes a loud noise, "Okay calm down there Supergirl you just got over a headache no need to give yourself another one." Lena says casually with a smile and Kara's head shoots up.
"It's about time! Rao Lena I was really hoping you were going to figure it out way sooner. I mean my excuses were terrible and I told you I flew here on a bus the first time we met." Kara says exasperated.
"Yeah looking back I don't know how I didn't put it together. It's like you wanted me to figure it out." She replies thinking about the terrible excuses.
"Well yeah, of course I did because then I could stop lying to you. It was kinda nice sometimes that you didn't know though. I could be just Kara and not Supergirl with you and it took the weight of the world off my shoulders even if it was just for a little bit." The blonde shares with a sad smile on her face.
"Is that why you didn't just tell me?" the CEO asks curiously thinking about what Vasquez had told her earlier.
"Sometimes, but no, I didn't tell you because I couldn't. Like legally, J'onn made me sign an NDA when I started working with the DEO and he made sure to slip in that I can't tell anyone who I am. It's good and it's supposed to protect me but sometimes it's not so great." The hero explains.
