I fumbled around in the dark, slapping my hands against the wall beside the door to find a light switch. Finding none, I reached out in front of me like a blind man. I stepped forward about two steps. Then I tripped, plunging into the darkness. I flung my hands out, but not soon enough. I smacked my forehead on something poking out of a wall in front of me and face planted the barrier in front of me. The rest of my body fell into the wall, the lights flickering to life.
“God damn it!” I whispered, rubbing my forehead.
I looked around. There was a small kitchen, with a stove, fridge, lots of cupboards, a microwave, and a coffee maker. I smiled, knowing I would use the coffee maker and microwave a lot. I loved coffee in the mornings, and I couldn’t cook worth a damn. There was a minuscule living room made up of a small couch, coffee table, and a couch-side table with a lamp on it. I quietly made my way across the room to the small hallway, looking in the room through the door on the right. It was a small bathroom, complete with a shower. I liked this place so far. It was definitely like an apartment. It was almost exactly like it said it would be in the school brochure.
On the left of the hall was a small dorm room with a bed, a small desk, and a set of drawers for clothes squashed in on each side. Both beds were empty, and it looked like nobody else was living here. The bed on the right side of the room was bare except for a mattress and a pillow without a pillow case. The bed on the left was made up with sky blue and purple sheets with a white pillow. There was a nightstand squeezed between the beds. It had drawers and an empty space under the drawers, and on top of it was a digital clock next to a small lamp. It was nearly 11. I sighed unhappily. I should of known that I wouldn’t have a room mate.
It’s just who I am.
I heaved my trunk onto the empty bed and flopped on my own for a moment. I meant to get up and put on pajamas, brush my teeth and maybe take a shower before I slept, but I was overcome by a sudden wave of exhaustion. My eyes became heavy and my entire body suddenly felt heavy as lead. I yawned, (vote if you yawned after reading that :P ) and shut my eyes, allowing sleep to come over me.

I dreamed I was walking in the woods in the night. Snow crunched under my feet. I was wearing the clothes I had been wearing today, except I had no shoes or socks on. I felt nothing on my feet though, no fiery, ice-cold pain or the tough, ice-coated snow breaking as I stepped on it. I was following a small light into the woods, my eyes glassy and fixed upon it. There were no stars in the sky, only inky blue darkness between the gaps in the trees. I followed the light deeper and deeper into the forrest, about 8 or 9 feet behind it. Several times, I thought I had lost it, but I would turn a corner and there it would be, waiting for me.
The light turned this way and that. I had no clue where I was going. Then, suddenly, the light stopped, bobbing up and down as it waited for me to catch up. I felt a great feeling of dread blossoming in my stomach, and I felt like I didn’t want to go towards the light anymore. It seemed to pull me closer, and with every step, I wanted to turn around, run away more and more. 8 feet… 7 feet…
At 5 feet, I turned around, trying to run. My legs windmilled through the air, but now I was floating toward the light, unable to get away from it. I looked around. It was even closer. I was just about to touch it when-
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” I screamed. I sat up in my bed and almost passed out from blood rush to the head. I blinked, my eyes adjusting to the bright light I had left on. Everything came into focus. I looked at my feet, still wearing socks. I looked out the large window above the bed with my trunk on it. No snow was on the ground, let alone falling. There weren’t even clouds. I could barely see the stars through the street lights lighting up the street. I looked at my clock. 3:15. Gross.
I got out of bed, heading towards the kitchen to start a new day.
