---------Bennie/ Solina POV----------
"What is your name?" I asked.
"Nile." He replied.
My eyes widened as I suddenly recognized the man standing in front of me.
"You're-"
"One of Dani's brothers, yes." He interrupted.
I was at a loss for words, I'd only heard of him in passing stories and anecdotes and now he stood in front of me.
"Judging by your silence, I'm going to assume you have a lot of questions."
I nodded.
He sighed and took a seat on the stone bench, allowing a little room for me to sit next to him.
I hesitated for a moment, glancing over my shoulder toward the ball before finally taking a seat next to him.
He smiled.
"Now, where do we begin?"
I fiddled with the embroidery on my sleeves before I started in on my line of questions.
"I want to start at the beginning, with Alex. Dani told me that he was supposed to be Alpha, and that he chose his mate over the title."
He nodded.
"He did."
"She also told me that you'd met your mate, and her name was Lauren." I spoke.
He sighed and seemed to think on what his next words would be before answering.
"I lied. I told Danielle that I'd found my mate, and that part was true, but I lied about who she was and where she was from. When I found out that I was going to become the Alpha because Alex stepped down...I panicked. I didn't have a mate and I wasn't fit to be an Alpha, I don't have the blood or the guts for it. I disappeared, and scared the hell out of everyone but-"
I couldn't help but interject myself.
"Your mate? Wait, you met your mate? Is she here? Is that why..." I trailed off.
"Yes. I met her, she entered the other side and immediately I was drawn to her. She told me about this place and I didn't believe her, but I was willing to try anything for her. I thought I was destined to walk this life alone, as my brother had found a mate and I didn't I thought it was weird that I was so different. I don't know why fate intervened and let me leave with a mate from another realm, but this is the first time I've heard of him doing it again." He nodded.
"You think the gods from the other realm are up to something?" I asked.
"Aren't they always?" He chuckled.
"So Dani and Drew, they have no idea about any of this?" I questioned.
He shook his head and looked down to his hands.
"I love Dani, she's my little sister and I will always have love and respect for her. I just, after everything that happened with Drew and her going back to him I-I couldn't watch her do that. Don't get me wrong, the guy kisses her ass and he changed everything about his former self to be the Lycan he is today but I couldn't watch them together. After hearing her sobs for years and watching her close herself off from my brother because of him, I think I've had enough."
"I understand that, Dani has an interesting dynamic in her family. She's incredibly strong, but I think that translated into stubbornness in her children." I replied.
He chuckled.
"It's been years since I've seen the boys. When Dani had those twins, Jake and I rushed over as quick as anything just to see them. I know multiples is common among Lycans but it was so eerie being in the same room as another set of twins. It makes me miss the other side sometimes." He spoke softly and I heard the guilt in his voice as it dropped an octave lower.
