------------Bennie's POV--------------
We returned to the house late that night, it took us a while to get back to the house from traffic from the carnival. Bryce held my hand throughout the entire car ride home, it felt natural to be close to my mate but also different.
A part of me knew that I would have to work through the insecurity of fearing not being worthy of such a mate, but I wasn't fully sure I would be able to do that. At least, not without time. Bryce was a beam of light in the lonely tunnel I was walking through alone with little regard for my life.
He led me up the stairs to the large estate and I sighed, not wanting for this night to leave us. He turned to face me and almost timidly I felt his hand brush a strand of my hair from my temple and he leaned next to my cheek.
"Goodnight, Bennie." he whispered and smirked as I entered the door with a look of confusion on my face.
I turned as he closed the door and rushed over to the window in the kitchen to see him shredding his clothing as he shifted into his wolf and ran out into the forest. That night I went to bed the happiest I'd been in my life.
The next morning I reported to Luna Danielle for training, she was already in the training field by the time I arrived and she smiled at me as I approached.
"Bennie! I was just thinking of you, how have you been? How was your date last night?" She asked and I returned her smile.
"It was incredible, I'd never been to a carnival and Bryce was a wonderful date. I'm enjoying myself very much." I replied.
"That's great, I want to talk more about it with you but we have some training to do." She nodded and handed me a blade.
"A knife?" I questioned.
"A throwing knife." She corrected before unleashing her knives upon the tree directly fifteen feet in front of us.
"Now you try, you need to learn to control your strength and your focus. You have raw and untamed power, while that can be a great gift it can also be your largest downfall. Hesitation will kill you before your enemy does." She nodded and her words stuck in my head.
We practiced for an hour before setting up the obstacle course and I turned to the Luna and asked her a question.
"Luna, if I may, how did you become so strong?" I questioned.
She paused for a moment, hesitating before answering me.
"A long time ago, I left these lands and didn't look back. A different pack took me in and honed in on my capabilities, there was a pack Shaman then and his name was Hannibel. Hannibel Crusare. He taught me everything there is to know about fighting." She smiled proudly, but there was a longing sadness behind it.
"What happened to him?" I asked, most packs these days didn't have Shamans anymore only healers and doctors.
She hung her head.
"He died in combat, I tried to save him but by the time I finished my fight and made my way over to him...I was too late." She shook her head as if she were trying to shake the memory from her mind.
"I'm sorry, Luna, it was not my intention to upset you-" I started before she interrupted me.
"Think nothing of it, it is in the past but he will never leave my heart. Things like that happen in combat, you lose the people you love and watch them rest forever. I want to prevent that from happening to you, in every way that I can." She nodded and turned back to the training course.
I decided then, that I would train with every fiber of my being, even if it almost killed me.
~~~~~~
Hours later I limped up the steps to the house and Luna Danielle laughed beside me.
"You're committed I will give you that, keep training every day like how you did today and I promise you will be the most gifted warrior this pack has ever seen." She slapped my back and I groaned in protest.
"Gods in Olympus! I never thought I would be so sore, I'm supposed to have godly strength." I whined and she slung one of my arms over her shoulder.
"Alright pup, up the stairs you go that's it, one at a time." She helped me up the stairs and into my room where I collapsed onto the bed with a large huff.
Moments later, after Luna Danielle had left me alone I heard a knocking at the door and groaned.
"No." I sighed as I propped myself off of the bed.
"What is it?" I shouted when I realized I hadn't the strength to even get up.
"It's, uh, Bryce." He spoke and I mustered all my strength to walk to the door and open it.
"Hey." I smiled lightly and he looked me up and down before bursting into laughter that boomed throughout the hallway.
I rolled my eyes and moved away from the door.
"Alright, I've got to take a shower so you can come back once you're through laughing at my expense."
He caught my wrist and chuckled.
"I apologize, it's just that you look as if you rolled around in mud all day long." He smiled and I shrugged.
"Your mother is a great teacher." I replied and he nodded, his expression suddenly turning serious.
"Yes, she drove us harder than anyone else in the Warrior training program. These muscles aren't just from genetics, you know?" he winked and I groaned again before he broke into laughter once more.
"Okay okay, honestly I brought you this plate of food because I overheard mom telling dad that she spent the whole day training you so I figured you'd be hungry. If you want to shower and then eat with me in your room I would enjoy that very much. But if you just want to be alone too I totally understand-" I interrupted him once again.
"Thank you, Bryce that was very kind of you. You can sit wherever you'd like, I'll be out in a few minutes." I nodded and he kissed my cheek quickly before I excused myself.
After showering, Bryce and I shared a meal in my room and discussed his life in the pack, growing up with a large family and even a little about the Elder's Council Testimony. He was very kind about everything and when it was time to leave he looked reluctant.
"I'll see you tomorrow morning, goodnight Bennie." He kissed my cheek first and then turned my face towards his and placed a lingering kiss upon my lips. I felt his lips curl into a smile and I followed suit as he pulled away.
"Goodnight, Bryce."
