Blood drained from his skin at the sight of his wife covered in bruises and blood. He even brought her favorite take-out so they can have dinner together.
"What happened?" His voice was shaking as he grabbed the side of her face to caress her. She was trembling so much in his hands; she must've been so scared alone. Her lips were moving but nothing came out.
Thinking she probably was in shock; he disregarded her reaction. "Let me just check the tape, yeah? In case we got them on camera." She shook her head but he was already on his feet, leaving his wife alone on the cold floor.
The smell of the cedar wall with a hint of resin was the first thing he noticed as soon as he entered the room. It always reminded him of the woods and any other day he would enjoyed it but right now, he went straight to the monitor.
Not sure of the specific time so he started watching right after he left home in the morning. There were no odds or any sign of anybody but as soon as Y/n came back in the evening, the camera lost its signal, showing the random dots of pixel.
"What the fuck?" He cursed lowly, trying to fix it by punching buttons on the keyboard but still, nothing happened.
Minutes passed and the screen was back to normal. But even worse than what he expected, there was a very familiar looking man standing in front of the camera. Kei squinted his eyes trying to believe what he was seeing.
Indeed, he was not wrong. There he was in his glory while smoking cigar between his fingers. With a playful smirk on his face, Hanma put up his middle finger as if mocking the man behind the screen.
Kei almost punched the screen while glaring down at the jerk. He saw Hanma reached something in his pocket then the screen lost the signal again, leaving Kei frustrated.
He assumed Hanma was the one who hit her wife from the look of it. He had seen that face long ago and nothing changed about him even as an adult, still that annoying little bastard.
After a lot of thinking in the room, he finally got out and went downstairs to check up on Y/n. She was still frozen on the ground, staring into nothing with her hands in her lap. She noticed his presence and instantly looked up.
"Did you find anything?" She hesitated at first but when he smiled, she knew he didn't blame her for what happened.
"Don't worry about it. I'm just going to make a quick phone call before we go to the hospital." He turned his back to her and he swore he hear she whispered, "Your gang friend?"
That kept him still in his place. He glanced at her from his shoulder. "What'd you say, honey?"
She gulped the lump in her throat, that tone was never good to her. "I said go ahead." She gave him a smile as a reassurance which he returned it.
"You look good in colors." The smile on her face dropped immediately. "Now don't go anywhere." Not like she can anyway.
Y/n leaned her head on the wall when the world around her started to spin around. Kei's figure was blurry and she felt like she was floating. Hands were embracing her when the darkness overflowed her vision.

The constant beeping sound in her ear was too loud to the point she was fully awake in annoyance. White lights were blinding her sight as soon as she started to open her eyes. There was this feeling of weight crushing her making her whole body numb.
She tried to move her fingers, only then she heard a male voice so close to her. "Oh great, you're up." A ruffling noise was followed after that. "I'm just going to do a little check-up, okay? Here some water."
It felt like she spent decades in the desert. Every sip was heaven to her dry throat. Fingers were cleaning the corner of her eyes so that she can see clearly then, he continued the check-up. After he was done, Y/n grabbed her chance to borrow his cell phone.
She knew an emergency like this would occur in the future, that was why she remembered Hikari's phone number by heart. It took her for a while to type it in since the keyboard was all weird; plus, the brightness wasn't helpful either.
Hikari picked up on the third ring. It was silent on the other side, making Y/n confused if Hikari ended the call. She checked and the time was running. At that moment she realised that her friend was always like that, waiting for the person on line to speak first. It doesn't matter even if she was the one who called first.
"It's me, Y/n." An exaggerating gasp left her lips. There was even a crash at the background, even the doctor stole a glance at the noise.
"I've been calling you from morning, where are you?" She sounded desperate for an answer, maybe hurt since Y/n always kept secrets from her.
"I'm at the hospital." Hikari shrieked. "Look, just come here and I promise I'll explain everything."
The silence was too much that she could hear the gears in Hikari's brain was working. "Okay." She weakly replied.
A sigh left Y/n. "I'll see you then."
This time, she took her time to give a response. "I love you."
First time, the first time Hikari was out of her character and really mean what she said. Their relationship was not like other dynamics. They knew they love each other so saying the naked truth was just a waste of breath. But hearing her said it for the first time, eased all her problems.
Y/n nodded like she can see her. "I love you too, Hikari." The call ended. The doctor left with his phone, leaving Y/n in her space.
The room was all hers since there was only one bed in it. She turned on the television to fill the silence yet it did nothing to mend her loneliness. Unwanted memories kept flashing before her very own eyes.
Before she could get lost in her world again, a knock interrupted her thoughts. That was quick, was Hikari around the block or something. She was unable to tell her to come in when the door slid open.
"Hey, momma."
