Y/n doesn't say anything. She gives him a blank look and turns her head to the window.

"How are you holding up?" Hanma asks, closing the door behind him. He then pulls a chair beside her bed.

She keeps her composure when he gets close but stays quiet. Her anger has long subsided and turns into disappointment. After years of trying, how could she expect this time will be it? Hope is all she has left. With everything that Kei destroyed—  dignity, courage and herself.

Hope is all she has left. In her cruel reality, she begins to hope for a miracle. A miracle that maybe someone would end this for her because she can't, Lord knows she tried.

"I'm sorry." He says while looking down on his hands. His voice is fill with resentment.

"What are you sorry for?" Y/n finally asks.

And then a long pause embraces the room. It was half past eight o'clock at night. The faint light from the moon is all she could see outside the window. There are no stars in the sky, not even cloud clutters. It is painfully dark and motionless, just for that night.

"Because I lied." He awkwardly states.

She chuckles. "It is that easy to you?" Y/n turns to Hanma. He is now staring into her eyes, wondering if he said something wrong.

The same eyes that he lies to when he promised her an escape— hope.

"Do you know, what I thought of when I laid there on the cold surface?" Tears well up in her eyes as she speaks.

"Wow, please let this work because I am done trying, Hanma. It hurts to keep hoping when I know damn well I would've just end myself years ago." She wipes her tears.

He watches her body trembling, trying not to sob in front of him. He thought about his original plan but just decides to tell her the truth.

"That's what all men do, y'know?" He rubs her arm as an attempt to comfort her but stopped when she swat his hand away. "We lie all the time but we would never hit women."

She is stunned when he says that. She never mentioned anything about Kei hitting her.

"If they do, then they were never a man to begin with." Hanma glances at his watch.

"Well, I think I got some time to kill. Why not I tell you a story, princess." A faint smile appears on his face.

(Hanma is first year in junior high while Kei and Y/n is in third year)

Hanma's POV

Watching my friends playing basketball got me thinking. It can't be that bad. The rumour that is. If she was in danger then why wouldn't she say anything. How boring.

Everyone stayed away from her because her only friend was a nut job. Apparently, her 'friend' did something bad to her bullies that made them kept a distance. Now everyone was scared of her. Why? it was not like she did a bad thing.

She used to be cute, with her pony tail too high, huge bag pack and her oversized uniform. Hell, if they didn't bully her, I would.

Now she was all gloomy and kept her head down as she walked. She just seemed— lonely. Spending hours at school with no friends must've felt lonely. All by yourself, only your thoughts accompanying you is torture.

The more I looked at her, the more pity I got. How come everyone was scared? She seemed like the type to apologise if you were to 'accidentally' bump into her. I'd do it every day just to get a reaction out of her.

This Kei kid was damn annoying too. Acting like the golden student in front of the teachers. How come the school didn't do anything if the rumours came out true?

Would they feel guilty? or just chose to ignore it because his daddy got some influence?

Damn it sucked to be her.

Well, it was never my problem. Maybe it was just children's quarrel so I don't need to think much about it. I'm going to transfer in a few days too so, probably just a phase.

(Present time at the club)

Third point of view

'Holy shit that was her right?' Hanma muttered to himself. His eyes were frantic with phone in his hands, trying to search her up.

He found out that Y/n is married to the creepy guy. Highest brightness flashed his face but he didn't care. He refuses to believe that the same girl from junior high still remains the same.

Hanma dropped his phone in his hands. If only he did something years ago, what would've happened?

Is the rumour true? If it is then, would he be doing the same thing to her now?

He shivered just thinking about it. Even after years has passed, that same pity is still inside of him. It's not like he knew if any of it were true, there's no solid evidence to prove that.

Other than pity, he sensed that loneliness creeped out of him.

And maybe, just maybe, she felt it too.

~~

Y/n quirks her eyebrow. "I don't remember you from school."

A small laugh eruptes from Hanma. "Y/n, tell me the name of your homeroom teacher. Bet you can't remember that."

She tries to rack her brain for names but she couldn't get any. He was right, again.

"When I came to your house, there were so many uhh... how do you say it?" He scratches his head to think. "Unusual things."

She only stares at him, silently asking him to finish.

Hanma let out a sigh. "Like.. the knives were glued to the bottom. No doors anywhere in the room. All in all just creepy, y'know." He avoids her gaze as he speaks, picking his words carefully so it doesn't insult her.

"It's just.. a house. It doesn't feel like home."

She doesn't even try to deny it because all of it is true. Not only does Kei discover new ways to trap her everyday, he would make sure that she never feels safe in her own house.

"I didn't know what else to do, okay? I followed you home just to see how you were doing. And it turns out— you're still the same girl in junior high." He sighs again.

"I'm not actually an assassin. There is no client. I made it all up. Nobody ought to kill anyone."

It was like a water bucket gets dump on her. He threatened her life while lying to her. Everything he said was all an act and for what?

"Why? because you pity me?" Tears forming at the corner of her eyes. "Someone like you?"

His heart sinks watching her cry but he couldn't understand why. Hanma doesn't know why it hurts to see her like this.

"Yes! Someone like me." He raised his voice a little, almost offended when she said that. "And what's wrong with pity? It means that I understand you."

Hanma strokes her hand gently to calm her down. "Look, I'm no good at this talking but," He holds her hand up to his lips. "I'm gonna be right here, kay?"
