There, up in the mountains, a full moon hovered in the sky.

Somewhere in the forest, the nightingale sang it's melodious tune and the thrum of crickets echoed through the trees.

Suddenly, a gust of wind rose up from the ground. It drove down the valley and reached a small town.

In the town, the streetlights flickered on and off as a stray dog strolled on the quiet streets. The wind then hopped over the rooftops and ceased at once.

The people of the town were fast asleep.

Except, for one.

The gentle wind gazed, flabbergasted at the little girl who stood near the huge windows.

It was at that moment, when Lina lifted her head and gazed at the midnight sky.

The very sky that had nothing to hide, yet mysterious as it had always been. The sky that had witnessed all the secrets of every human being. The sky that had tugged at her heartstrings.

For some unknown reason, her heart felt heavy in her chest. Then again, it had been heavy for as long as she could remember.

All The stars and the clouds gazed down at the girl. As if they could feel the weight of her chest. As if they could see the longing in her eyes. As if they could hear the unsaid words.

The wind leaped through the open window and whispered words of comfort. But it couldn't do much to lift up the heaviness inside.

There was something about the sky that gave Lina an ache in her chest. She didn't quite understand but whenever she gazed at it she felt like a bird trapped in a cage.

“Lina?” A voice whispered. “Are you still awake love?”

Lina, who was standing near the window turned around. Her blue-green irises met with chocolate brown eyes. “Nani” she whispered.

Aisha, a woman in her late sixties with greying hair and gentle eyes stared back at her. She slowly made her way towards the window. Even though Aisha was old she could walk without the help of a walking stick.

“The stars look pretty, don't they?” She commented, placing her hands on the window sill.

“Yeah, they are very pretty.” Lina whispered.

An eerie silence settled upon the room as both of them gazed at the starry sky. Lina watched as the stars winked at each other in the dark and she couldn't help but stare at them with a soft smile.

“There's the smile I have been looking for,” Aisha whispered, breaking the silence. And all most immediately Lina's eyes brimmed with unshed tears—threatening to fall down her pale and fragile face.

“Love, you should go to sleep. You need to catch a flight tomorrow-” she then glanced at the clock. “Today.” She muttered.

“You know that right?”
