The sun rose higher in the clear blue sky of Cape Town and shined brightly—as if to silently convey the message of a new change. A new promise.

A new beginning.

The clouds moved along with the wind, casting their shadows on the rocky mountains. The kingfisher flew down the river side and caught hold of a small fish. The meadow peopled with wild flowers welcomed the butterflies. The bees were hovering around the beehives, simultaneously bearding and guarding their queen bee.

Just then a swift yet gentle wind rose from the ground and travelled it's way up to the sky. The dandelions shook at the impact of the cold wind—causing the pappus hairs to set out on an expedition.

Little birds seated on the branches giggled when a tiny pappus hair passed by them. It seemed that the little one had separated from the others. After hours of searching, dejected, the lost pappus hair finally decided to rest on a leaf.

Suddenly, the screeching of tires were heard. It was then when the squirrels stopped dancing, the birds stopped giggling, the tiny ants stopped marching, the bees stopped bearding, the butterflies stopped sucking the nectar, and the wind stopped blowing.

From the far end of the road appeared a white Volkswagen. It was being followed by two black SUVs.

All the birds and all the ants. Every leaf and every twig. All the butterflies and all the bees. Stood in a hushed silence, quietly observing the cars.

The tiny pappus hair frowned at the sudden calmness. Slowly, it lifted it's head to see the reason why it's surrounding had gone quiet. When it's eyes fell on a certain blue-green eyes, the tiny pappus hair lost it's breath. Then, in an instant—as if breaking out of it's trance, the pappus hair rolled out a laugh. It was as though the little one was delighted to see the newcomer.

Then, like a domino effect, everyone started smiling. Giggling. Laughing.

The wind leaped out of joy. The flowers bloomed under the sun. The birds sang one song after the other while the squirrels danced around the forest.

All the clouds gazed down at the joyful creatures, wondering at the sudden change of atmosphere. When their eyes rested on a certain girl, they smiled.

The sun smiled too.

And just like that, all the creatures beamed with happiness as they welcomed the blue-green eyed princess.

Lina's eyelashes flickered slightly in her sleep as a soft disturbance of murmuring filled her ears. The voices were initially hushed but with every moment slipping by, the voices became clearer.

"Dad you're not strong enough, give her to me."

"Is that your way of calling me old? Because that's not going to end well with you. And for your information I am very fit to carry a thirteen year old."
