Lina watched as tiny specks of dust danced in the shaft of afternoon sunlight that slanted through the window. She slowly lifted her hands and tried to touch the dust particles. But the tiny specks of dust touched her palms and moved away.

A small smile formed on her lips as childish joy filled her heart.

She tried again. Lina immediately closed her palms but when she opened them, she found none. This time a giggle escaped her lips.

“Are you trying to grab them?” a voice startled her. Lina looked towards her left and found Ayaan standing outside the car with an amused smile plastered on his lips. She was so engrossed in her own world that she hadn't noticed him open the door of the backseat.

Lina bit her cheeks. She found herself turning red with embarrassment as she realised her brother had seen her.

A thirteen years old trying to grab dust particles. Quite childish. Right?

What impression would he get? He would surely think that she was a freak.

“Actually I-”

“I used to do that a lot.” Ayaan opened the door and sat next to her. He lifted his fingers and tried to touch the tiny specks of dust. A chuckle escaped his lips. “It was quite fascinating. It still is.”

“Um...” Lina was baffled. She really didn't expect that. She had assumed he would make fun of her.

“These tiny specks of dust reminds me how vast the universe is.” He brought his forefinger closer to his eyes. Lina too found herself leaning towards him.

It was silent for a while. Both the siblings were lost in their thoughts.
Suddenly, waves of  amazement stirred in her heart as Lina pondered over what her brother had just said.

These tiny specks of dust, when compared to the vastness of the universe was really something that Lina couldn't grasp.

“These specks of dust reminds me of humans. And how Little we are compared to the universe.” Ayaan spoke after a moment of silence. “ I mean just think. We are but a speck of dust in this universe.” He then looked at her and whispered. “We are just so...small.”

Lina was filled with awe.

There were two reasons.

One: the realisation of how vast the universe was and how little they all were in comparison to the universe.

Two: she had just realised her brother was quite a thinker.

In all honesty, she hadn't thought that someone as playful as Ayaan was capable of such reflections. Then again, she had just met him and it was really wrong of her to draw conclusions based on one meeting.

“You shouldn't have judged him so easily!” Lina scolded her in her mind. She was suddenly feeling guilty.

“Whenever I think of the universe, I feel so overwhelmed.”Ayaan chuckled. “And makes me think. About the creation. The planets. The stars. The galaxies. The universe. And then eventually it leads me to one thing.”
