Time, they say, moves slowly but passes quickly.
Yet it's not time itself rather the surrounding that makes one feel what they feel. For those in grief, time moves at a snail's pace. For those in joy, time flies.
When you want time to pass quickly, it slows down. And when you wanted it to slow down, it moved faster than a wink of an eye.
Hence, even when Lina had wanted time to slow down, it had moved faster than a blink of an eye.
"What are you doing?"
Lina craned her neck to look at Ayaan. She was sitting in the living room with a red prospectus in her hand. "Ayan Bhai." A whisper escaped her lips.
"I was just-"
"Reading your school's prospectus?"
And there it was. The reason why Lina was so disappointed that time wouldn't slow down for her. She was trying to evade the fact that she would be going to school.
"You'll be seeing it tomorrow with your own eyes." Ayaan chuckled as he took a seat next to her.
Right. That dreadful day was tommorow. Her eyes fell on the prospectus again. 'Wynberg High School for Girls', it read in black capital letters. She'd be travelling to Cape Town almost every day from now on.
A sigh escaped her lips. Lina didn't know what she was supposed to feel. Her mind went back to the conversation she had with her father.
"It's a girls school." He had informed. "The principal is a good friend of mine. So I hope you wouldn't have any problem."
At that moment she wanted to say yes. That she did have a problem. But she couldn't. Lina didn't have any problem with learning or with school itself. Infact, if she recalled her past she used to love it. Until something happened. And that changed her views.
"Here" Ayaan offered a chocolate bar.
Lina's eyes lit up. "Thank you." She gave him a soft smile.
It was fair to say that in these few days she had bonded well with her youngest older brother. Ayan was the most easy-going person she had ever met. Sure, he goofed around a lot. It was easy to rile up but he was quick-witted. And he could become serious when he wanted to. Ayaan was currently in his final year. 'Wynberg High School for Boys'. Same institution but different building. She would be spending a lot of time with him.
Although, Lina didn't mind it all. Her youngest older brother was likable. They had similar taste in books, loved ice-creams and he hated school with passion. It was noteworthy to mention that she had learnt all these only because Ayaan had willingly shared it with her. Lina was yet to initiate things on her own. It would take time.
"Stop worrying so much, little one." Ayaan said, pulling her cheeks.
Oh! and he loved to pull her cheeks. And that endearment. Sometimes it did frustrate her. At times, she would tell him to refrain from calling her that. But it seemed he had become deaf. He wouldn't pay any heed.
