Aaliyah was pissed as she finished making the children's plates. She sat the plates down on the table just as the front door closed. Michael crept into the kitchen smiling, but it was replaced with confusion when he saw the anger plastered to Aaliyah's face.
"LiLi?" He called out.
Aaliyah's eyes slowly moved to him and she exhaled, "Hi, Michael."
Michael stepped to her and cleared his throat, "I apologize for not making it home on time to help you prepare dinner. Ahem. Are you alright?"
Aaliyah stopped half way in the middle of placing a fork down and turned to Michael, "I thought you said she agreed to be nicer, Michael."
"Who? Lisa? She did. Did something happen while I was away?"
"She pushed me! In front of Mariah! That angers me. I didn't even want to fight back. I never want these kids to see the bad side of me! They'll think I'm a cruel person. I shouldn't work here anymore, Michael. I should end my job here before things get too bad around here," Aaliyah replied.
"I need you, Aaliyah. I mean, my children need you. I never want you out of their lives..nor mine! I can't apologize enough for Lisa's horrible behavior, but I'll fix it. I promise," Michael said then left the kitchen.
As he headed upstairs, the children were coming down. Michael greeted them with hugs and kisses then watched them head to the kitchen. He entered his bedroom and Lisa got up from the bed.
"Michael! Honey!"
Her lips puckered and Michael frowned as he rejected her.
He slammed the bedroom door causing everyone downstairs to jump.
"What the hell is wrong with you? Huh?!" An angry expression grew on Michael's face. Lisa was quite shocked. She couldn't recall ever hearing Michael cuss.
"What do you mean, Michael?" Lisa asked, playing dumb."It's not cool to have violent shows in front of our children! It's also not cool to go around pushing on grown women! What has gotten into you, Lisa? Hm? Does Aaliyah intimidate you that much?" Michael asked as his arms folded.
Lisa sighed, "I don't know what came over me, baby. I was just so angry. She's always trying to tell me how to raise my children. That's not fair."
"She doesn't tell you how to raise them. She simply wants for you to treat them better. You know you're not receiving the best mother award, so why not do better? You're forgetful, you're rude, and you're not very supportive nor motivational. You've disappointed me, Lisa. I want you to go downstairs and apologize to Aaliyah and Mariah! You'll be so, so sorry if you don't," he said as his eyes stared devilish at her eyes.
Not wanting to apologize nor upset Michael anymore, Lisa opened the bedroom door and Michael followed behind her. They entered the kitchen where Aaliyah ate silently with the kids.
"Dinner was getting cold and they have school tomorrow. I'm sorry that we started without y'all," Aaliyah said.
"It's fine, LiLi. Lisa has something to say to you and Mariah," he responded and nudged Lisa.
She exhaled, "I was incredibly wrong for putting my hands on you, Aaliyah. I shouldn't have done that. I apologize and I hope that you can forgive me. Mariah, sweetie, I love you. Mommy is so sorry for doing that in front of you. I'm also so proud of you for doing so well in English class."
Mariah looked disappointed, "It was math class, mama. Math class."
Lisa shrugged, "Whatever. I'm proud of you!"
Michael smiled and kissed Lisa's cheek.
Aaliyah didn't forgive Lisa and didn't plan on doing so. She kept an angry expression as Michael and Lisa sat down to dinner. Michael glanced across at her and smiled slightly. He knew the problem was not solved and said a silent prayer to himself.
It was midnight when Aaliyah sipped the milk from her mug. She was startled when Michael entered into the kitchen. She let out a small gasp.
"LiLi? Did I scare you? Why aren't you in bed?" Michael asked.
Her eyes lowered as she leaned over the counter top, "I can't sleep, so I decided to check on the kids then come down here for some milk. Why aren't you in bed?"
Michael shrugged, "I can't sleep either."
He fixed himself a glass of milk and stood beside her.
"You okay?" he asked.
"I can't stop thinking about Lisa and what happened here. I don't think I belong here," Aaliyah replied before sipping from her mug.
Michael sighed, "I'm sorry, LiLi. Please, don't leave. We need you! I need you!"
Aaliyah looked up at Michael and gave him a small smile, "I love the kids so much already, but I don't want the problems Lisa give. I don't deserve the treatment especially when I'm helping out with her children."
Michael nodded and placed his arm around her shoulder, "Lisa has been with these children all their lives and hasn't made them half as happy as you make them. I'll stay on Lisa. I promise. Just stay, LiLi. For me especially."
Michael's lips pouted and Aaliyah laughed softly while shaking her head.
"Alright. I'll stay. For you especially," she smiled then leaned over placing a gentle kiss to Michael's cheek.
