MITCHELL

I had thought Nash would wait until we got to Ohio to start the talk he'd told me we needed to have, but he didn't. As soon as I got into the backseat of the car that was taking us to the airport Nash looked over at me with a cocky grin.

"So, he started, "want to explain this thing you got going on with Sammy?"

"Good morning to you too," I grumbled. I was tired and needed another cup of coffee. I'd fallen asleep in Sammy's bed when we got back after the restaurant and by the time I got back to my place, it was after four in the morning. Since we were leaving for the airport at six there was no use to go back to sleep.

"Not enough coffee?" he asked with a sarcastic tone.

"Late night," I responded and looked him straight in the eye.

Nash cracked up laughing and held his knuckles out to me. "Alright," he said once he stopped laughing. "So is it serious, or are you just banging?"

"Dude," I grumbled.

Why the hell was Nash so happy and awake this morning? Didn't he have a brand new baby at home?

Nash's only response was a raised eyebrow.

"Serious," I admitted.

His eyes brightened and the smile spread across his entire face. "Yeah? Wow."

I nodded because really, what was there to say?

"How long has this been going on?" He was suddenly frowning and sent a scowl my way. "Why didn't you tell me, man?"

"Nash," I sighed. "It's complicated, alright."

"Uhu." He didn't seem to agree.

"We didn't want to make it awkward for you and Kennedy."

"Are you kidding?" His eyes flashed back to mine. "Why would it be awkward? She'll love it."

I rubbed my jaw and glanced out the window so it took me a couple of seconds to comprehend what he said.

"You didn't tell her?"

"No. I didn't know what you were doing and I didn't want to get her hopes up until I knew what the deal was."

That was kind of my point, but I hadn't expected Nash to keep quiet about what he suspected. I figured he would've told Kennedy what he thought right away. But then it was the same reason me and Sammy had kept it quiet. We needed to figure out what it was between us before we told them. Although I had a feeling I'd known long before Sammy did that she was the one for me.

"Sammy is telling Kennedy about us today," I admitted.

"That's good because I don't want to lie to her. I won't lie to her."

"I know that."

He got quiet for a couple of minutes so I leaned my head back against the headrest and closed my eyes. Even though I was tired the date with Sammy had been worth it. The food had been excellent, and what followed at her apartment even better.

"How did Jackson take it?" Nash asked out of nowhere.

My eyes snapped open. "What do you mean?"

"It was pretty obvious he had a thing for her at least a while back. Did you tell him?"

"Something like that..."

Nash laughed.

I sighed but fessed up. "He kind of walked in on us making out."

That only made him laugh harder. I did a Sammy special and rolled my eyes.

"So that's why he was giving you the cold shoulder for a while. I couldn't figure it out. He went from singing your praises to grumbling when he heard your name. No wonder he started to look for a new apartment again."
