4 months later

"The baby room looks so cute, Ken."

Sammy smiled with her entire face as Kennedy showed her what used to be the guest room which was slowly becoming the baby's room. Or so I was told. There was no furniture in there yet, or much of anything. It had just been painted into a light blue-ish color and the trim and doors were white. Someone, and I assumed it was Kennedy, had left a couple of stuffed animals on a shelf. There were a few boxes and stuff that clearly didn't belong in the room, like Nash's hockey bag, thrown in a corner.

"It will be once we actually get some furniture in here," Nash responded. I didn't say anything but I totally agreed with him. The way it looked like now was not adorable. It was like... nothing. Just a plain boring room.

Kennedy rolled her eyes and waddled over to stand next to Sammy. She was six months pregnant and it definitely showed. Her petite body already sported a sizable belly and I wondered yet again what she would look like at nine months? I hoped for her sake that the kid didn't take after Nash. At least not until after he was born.

"It will totally be adorable in here," Sammy agreed and pointed to the wall. "You could put the crib and changing table right there which would give you enough room for a dresser over there," she turned and pointed to the wall behind Nash and me, next to the closet, and then you could have a rocker in the corner, and maybe one of those cute little toy boxes under the windows."

Nash looked over at me and I shrugged my shoulders. I didn't really get what all the fuss was about an empty room. I understood the whole thing about Nash and Kennedy becoming parents and the anticipation of it, but not the whole room thing. I mean it was an empty, newly painted room. Maybe it would make a difference once it had furniture and was decorated? Nah, probably not even then.

"I was thinking the same thing!" Kennedy's entire face lit up. "I could get one of those really cut mobiles over the crib, you know the ones with the little spinning toys and maybe some teddy bear pictures on the wall."

Sammy nodded her head which caused her blond locks to fall into her face. She used her long, slender hand to swipe it away and push it back behind her ear. I caught myself and averted my eyes before I stared too long. She really was beautiful, even when she was just dressed in a pair of jeans and a black turtleneck.

"I love that."

"Teddybears, huh?" I asked Nash. Now that they knew they were having a boy he'd been all for a sports-themed room, because supposedly when you have a kid you need a "theme" for the room. I didn't get that part either, but then again my upbringing had been nothing like Nash and Kennedy's.

Nash snorted which made Kennedy turn around. The look she gave him told me it was a discussion they'd already had, and obviously didn't agree on.

"Don't start, Nash," Kennedy said before he got a chance to say anything. "He'll be a little, little boy and he'll need cute little teddy bears and stuffed animals. Once he becomes a little older you can do the whole sports-themed room."

That made sense.

Nash sighed. "I just don't know why we can't do both?"

"It doesn't go, Nash."

"Technically you could." Sammy began and received a scowl from Kennedy, but that didn't deter her. "I mean it's your apartment and your baby. You can do whatever you want. It's not like you need permission from anyone to decorate your baby's room."

"See, I know I liked you for a reason," Nash said and got one of Sammy's beautiful smiles in return.

"I guess... but I really do like my idea better." Kennedy cocked her head and she studied the wall like she was picturing a blend of teddy bears and sports equipment on the wall. She shifted her weight from one foot to another and began to rub her baby bump.
