Chapter 3: Lessons Learned

"Oomph." Callion grunted as the Ki blast hit his chest and pushed him against a wall, while the force of the blast almost knocked the 10-year-old unconscious. Once the blast hit Callion, fear struck through his body like lightning and he felt stuck to the ground, unable to move.

"How do you expect to live if you can't even run away?" Pike said as he blasted another child with a Ki blast causing that child to also be pushed into another wall. Oragan was also hit by a Ki blast, and it sent him flying across the room then another blast hit the unnamed girl. Callion noticed another Ki blast headed his way, so he rolled out of the way.

Pike seemed impressed by the dodge, so he shot another blast at Callion, which the kid managed to dodge once again. He could feel both his senses and reflexes sharpening while he dodged the Ki blasts.

Callion decided that running wasn't going to be enough, so he dashed towards Pike with a level of speed that surprised the older warrior. The young Saiyan threw a barrage of random punches and kicks that never hit their target no matter how hard or fast he tried to attack.

"Great job! Now onto the other lesson!" Pike yelled while still firing Ki blast at only Callion and forgetting about everyone else in the process. "The bigger the ki blast, the slower it moves, the smaller it is the faster it moves. Watch." Pike then pointed a single finger at Callion, then fired a ki bullet at him. The ki bullet hit Callion in the shoulder, but it didn't pierce his flesh at all; it simply broke through his shirt and caused him a little bit of pain.

"It packs less of a bunch, but with enough power it could go completely through your body and if aimed at the right place, it could be an instant kill." Pike said as he finally put his arm down. He turned towards the rest of the kids who were now completely spread out and panting. "I'm disappointed in the rest of you and you'll most likely die if you don't get better. Go back to your cell and tend to your injuries before I cause some more."

The next day...

Callion and the rest of the children sat in the large training room and watched as Pike paced around with his hand on his chin, effectively showing the body language of someone in deep thought.

"Today I'll teach you all how to use Ki energy. Ki energy is the energy inside of you and everyone has it so don't tell me you can't use it." Pike said, while staring at the blue haired girl who was now known as the crybaby of the group. "Basically you have to focus on the energy in your stomach and bring it out so that you can focus it somewhere. Let's try the palm of your hands."

Pike did a quick demonstration and then left the room completely without a single word, which left the group of kids confused and unable to figure out what to do until Oragan decided to sit down and close his eyes.

He began to concentrate on the energy inside of him and he emptied his mind completely.

Callion watched in awe as his friend as he felt small gusts of wind circling his friend. It wasn't much, it felt like a small draft, but he felt it either way and it intrigued him a lot which then caused him to want to try it himself.

Flashes of yellow began to form in his hands and suddenly a small ball appeared in his hands, which only kept getting bigger and bigger. Oragan was amazing at using his energy, probably due to Namekians being more spiritual in nature than any other race of creatures.

Not wanting to be outdone, Callion sat down and tried to repeat everything he'd seen Oragan doing and everyone else decided to do the same thing. Suddenly a blue light appeared in Callion's hand.

As he opened his eyes, he was no longer in the training area, he was in a strange place sitting in front of the same white-haired girl who had yelled at him just the previous day. The only difference was, she had cat ears and the white-haired woman in front of him. Suddenly, he was sitting in front of a screen, watching a show that seemed so familiar to him, but as he looked in the mirror beside him, he noticed he looked older and cleaner than he usually did.

"These... aren't my memories."

Callion opened his eyes and there he was holding a ball of energy in his hand that he had formed by himself. He felt proud and happy at his accomplishment, and he wanted to see what else he could do with his new power.

"Cal, you did it!" Oragan yelled happily while accidentally giving Callion a nickname.

Suddenly Pike came back in and began to look around. "Once again I'm disappointed. Out of all 10 of you, only 3 were able to complete this challenge and that's purely unacceptable for future soldiers." His eyes then landed on Callion and lingered there for a second.

"Please, give them another chance." Callion said as he took a step towards Pike, but the older man stuck out his hand and fired a Ki ball at Callion.

"I've told you before not to speak to me and you continue to disobey me? You're lucky I have something else in store for you or else I'd kill you right now." Pike said then turned towards the rest of the children. "The ones who were able to create a ball of ki, please come with me. The rest of you..." Pike said nothing as he turned around and started to walk out of the room.

Oragan, Hazel, and Callion followed closely behind the older man as they had finally seen more of the ship they were on. Instead of being on water, they were actually in space flying across multiple planets and stars. Callion's eyes went wide as he looked out the giant window they were passing.

He wanted to ask Pike where they were going, but his better judgement told him that it would be best if he didn't say anything in fear of getting blasted again.

Entering another large room, this one however had a single seat in there which seemed to be a giant throne, or a regular sized throne. Truthfully, Callion had never seen a throne and was enthralled by how large it was.

"Lord Salmon, these three children have shown more potential than the rest of the children that were picked up."

A large creature stepped out from behind the throne and turned towards Pike. The creature looked a lot like Pike in that they both had humanoid appearances, but they had fish scales and gills. Whereas Pike was a green creature, Lord Salmon was mostly red, but had green areas on his body.

"These are the children? They don't look like much." Lord Salmon said while he sat down on his throne and placed his chin on his hand. "Tell me, who are these children and where did you get them?"

"Lord Salmon, this child is a Namekian. I do not know his name, but we acquired him from planet Namek a few weeks ago during our exchange for peace." Pike said while pointing to Oragan.

The ship's leader then nodded his head basically telling Pike to continue.

"I do not know what this child is, but we captured her while we intercepted some of Frieza's soldiers."

"Please continue..." Lord Salmon said as he squinted his eyes.

Shaking his head, Pike then turned to the last child behind him and grit his teeth. "This child is a headache that doesn't listen to basic commands. He's a Saiyan that was picked up by Team A while they raided planet Crimson."

"A Saiyan on planet Crimson? How is that possible? I thought all the Saiyans had gotten wiped out by that meteor years ago!"

"We killed his parents due to them fighting against us, but I can only guess they managed to escape before the meteor destroyed their planet."

"Magnificent. I wonder if there are more Saiyans out where we just haven't found them." Salmon said while he stared deep into the eyes of Callion, which Salmon then saw something he hadn't seen in a while. Fire.

Salmon laughed as he felt himself getting excited again which he hadn't been excited for a long time.

"Lord Salmon, may I ask what is so funny?"

"The Saiyan child has a fire in his eyes that I haven't seen in so long! I heard that the Saiyans were a warrior race, but who would have thought that it was a genetic thing instead of something that is taught. Please begin their training immediately!" Salmon yelled in excitement.

Pike nodded his head, bowed, then left with the children in tow. "Tomorrow I'll be teaching you how to actually fight, so no more just throwing punches around aimlessly. I'll turn you three into warriors."
