Part 28

As much as they were bursting to tell their husbands and older children the good news the 'Mum's to be' decided to wait until they'd been to the doctors.

They had to wait a week for appointments at more or less the same time. So they eased the suspense by telling Phyllis who after she'd hugged them both, confessed to having been wondering about them both for a while.

'Mum's the word until after we've been to the doctors............pardon the pun' said Simone as they all burst out laughing.

'I'm sure that after all this subterfuge you and I could get jobs with M15'. Caroline chuckled as after quickly inventing excuses she and Simone left for the doctor's surgery.

They both got the same Doctor with appointments back to back. Caroline went in first and emerged smiling. Although she already knew she was pregnant, this sort of made it 'official'.

'Come on then' Simone asked all of a twitter. 'When's EDD day' ?

'December 7 th' Caroline smiled so nearly a Christmas baby. I'm so hoping you'll be December too'.

'Well we'll soon know'. Simone put a hand on her friend's arm as her name was called.

She came out smiling. 'My EDD day is December 11th' Brilliant. We'll be pregnant and new Mum's together. It'll be fun'. Caroline who'd had no one during her previous pregnancies was in tears of happiness.

Back at Sparthwaite having bought some pies for lunch they got their 'menfolk' together to eat. They decided to break the news separately to the Fathers to be and the Brother's to be.

Phyllis looked after Henry, Freddy and Charlie while their mother's told their step fathers.

The resulting howls of delight from Rick and John in the kitchen were clearly, loudly audible.

The 3 boys needed to be told more quietly and their mother's thought it best to do it in private before they all ate together. The lounge was large enough for them to go to opposite ends of the same room.

Caroline took Freddy and Charlie's hands. 'I've got some good news for you'. She told them ' but if there's anything you feel unsure about you must say...............You're going to have a baby brother or sister'.

2 pairs of huge eyes looked at her behind which all manner of thoughts were going on. 'Do you need to ask me anything ?' She prompted.

'Is our Daddy this baby's Daddy too ?' Freddy wanted to know and was told ' No darling John's this baby's Daddy.'

Charlie's little bottom lip trembled. 'Does John not love us anymore ?' He asked in a quavery whisper. Caroline placed kisses on the little faces in front of her. 'We'll go and ask him shall we'.

In the kitchen she smiled gently at John. 'The boys need to ask you something to do with the new baby'.

John held his hands out to the boys. 'Come on then'. He lifted one boy onto each knee. 'What can I help you with gents ?' Charlie's quivering voice struck straight at not only his Mummy's heart but also that of his stepfather as he asked him if he and his brother were still loved.

John felt tears prick his eyes taking a deep breath to control them. ' I love you monsters very much'. He had to work hard at keeping a steady voice himself. ' You're my little boys. Nothings going to change that. Nothing at all'.

He hugged each boy separately feeling love and joy surging through him.

He had a family a real loving family and it would soon be added to. He caught Caroline's eyes shining her joy ans approval.
