I sighed as I sat at my desk, preparing for the meeting I had scheduled with Ms. Wilkerson at her home in Orange Mound. Sometimes, it was hard to not feel bad for the parents of children that had gone missing. Even though I was taught to not grow close to families, or not grow too fond of them, it was extremely difficult for me to refrain from not caring about the families I worked with on a time to time basis. I was an empath and I chose this line of work because I knew I would help people get closure whether it would be good or bad... I still wanted to provide people with a sense of closure. This might sound a little silly to some... but I was inspired to be a detective due to two occurrences during my developmental years... My parents were big supporters of my academic development in my early years, therefore, I received the complete Sherlock Holmes Book set as a birthday gift. Those stories and those books opened my mind to the endless possibilities and wonders of solving crimes... but I wanted to take it a step further, I wanted to help families find their loved ones. Secondly, a Detective took me under his wing when I was sixteen. I didn't live in the safest of neighborhoods when I grew up, and it seemed like my family was immune to the violence that perpetrated the neighborhood until one of my younger siblings was struck by a stray bullet. I remember the Detective taking a liking to me because I expressed my interest in "learning to help people the way he does." Subsequently, I went to Tennessee State University in Nashville and I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and the rest was history...
