On a bright and sun-filled Saturday, everyone was out and playing a few games of baseball at the court. Mariana was stood on the side with Leilani and holding Axel as they had a few sodas under the blazing, hot sun.
"Phew! It's really hot today!" Mariana exclaimed while panting out and fanning herself.
"Mama, have drink please." Axel reached out and touched under chin to get her attention.
"Okay, my little baby." Mariana then gave him a cup of diluted pineapple juice.
"Tanks Mama." Axel smiled and then began sucking through the straw. He hiccuped and some dripped down his chin.
"Aw has my little Axel got the hiccups?" She tickled his cheek and kissed it. She was leaning on the table where they had their refreshments and almost slipped.
"Oh careful chérie." Leilani said, looking down to where Mariana was crouched.
"I won't." Mariana smiled and watched the court. It was mainly the kids that were batting. Mateo was first to bat as Micah was the pitcher and Miguel and Jay and the rest were in the field. Micah moved a bit forward as they watered down the game a little and threw the ball gently.
"I shouldn't have worn this dress today," Leilani said as she tugged at her black dress that reached down just below her knees.
"Didn't you know it was going to be hot?" Mariana said, looking down in concern.
"Erm..." Leilani stuttered and then shrugged. She then adjusted her hat and drank from her ice tea.
"I look the opposite right now," Mariana as she was relaxing in gray sweatpants and a tank top. "Honestly I kinda look like I got out of bed," she chuckled with her frizzy hair hanging down like a willow tree.
"You don't look that bad, except the hair." Leilani chuckled as she pulled a bit towards her.
"True." Mariana slightly nodded and heaved herself onto the table. She then turned back to Mona who was sat down quietly drinking Pepsi.
"Hey Mona, come sit here with us." Mariana patted the space next to her with an inviting smile, and a friendly tone.
"You sure?" Mona muttered nervously, staying stuck to her seat.
"Yeah come on, your missing out on all the fun."
"Well... okay." Mona got up and then went over to them to watch the game. She could see her own kids playing on the field. She smiled as she was happy to see them having fun. She was slightly nervous about coming out today due to a long time of being around this many people.
Mateo missed the ball once and Kevin caught him from behind.
"Try again Mateo," he said and rolled the ball back to Micah. He picked it up and then threw it again which Mateo hit this time.
"Yay!" Mateo cheered and began running towards the post.
"Look at Mateo go!" Leilani started clapping and brought out her phone to record. "After the kids have a turn, I'm going to go on myself because I love baseball."
"I hate it," Mariana bluntly said, and then laughed with how suddenly it came out.
"I mean, I don't hate it, I like it, I just don't like playing it." She readjusted her words because she did like the game, when she was a spectator instead of a player.
"How comes Mariana?" Mona asked.
"I don't like being the fielder because I'm scared that if the ball comes to me, I won't be able to get it in time and then I will fail the whole team." She shivered like she was uncomfortable.
