This was a disaster. It is actively a disaster. Lisa digs her hands in the loose pockets of her baggy jeans after Jennie manages to slip out of the restaurant door Lisa held open for her.A small "thank you" is what she hears come from behind her and she looks back at the elegant girl who said it. Jennie's silky strands that have been straightened fall freely over her shoulders, allowing only a peek of her sharp collarbones, but according to Lisa, not enough. She still admires, Jennie Kim in this sinfully tight black dress hugging her curves perfectly. The dress is otherwise simple, but it's like it was made for Jennie. Lisa couldn't imagine someone else pulling the look off that well. But then it was most probably because it was tailored for Jennie in the first place. Lisa knows the girl is loaded from driving Jennie to her place after their date last time. Her place is nothing short of a mansion.
"Anytime." Lisa mutters, already done with this.
It's not that she's mad at Jennie. It's just that...okay yes, maybe she is little mad at Jennie but can you blame her? They were on their third date already and Lisa knew nothing more than her name, job, her friendship with Jisoo who set them up through her girlfriend Rosé who is also Lisa's friend, and that she had been in the US for her studies for a span of three years. That's it. Oh, and her favourite colour which was a very direct "black" from Jennie. Like come on, you can't be so sure of only one colour being your favourite. That's just so absurd. Well, at least to Lisa. Or maybe she's just nitpicking because Jennie makes her feel insecure. The latter is definitely it.
Lisa mindlessly opens the door to her car and Jennie steps in, muttering another thank you which Lisa doesn't reply to this time. She's contemplating if she will ask Jennie out on a fourth date but the bitter voice in her head is telling her it's a waste of time. She's wasted three dates worth of time as it is and not even received a kiss from the girl currently sitting on her passenger seat so what was the point anyway? Fuck, Jennie makes her feel extremely insecure.
Lisa gulps all her tension down, starting her car. The drive is silent for the next five minutes. Typical, Lisa thinks, chuckling mentally. All Jennie does is stare up front, her back straightened, giving her a defensive edge.
"I know I haven't been the most open..." Jennie starts and Lisa almost jumps. She was not expecting Jennie to say anything, let alone those very words. "But if I'm really honest, I liked your company a lot." Jennie's voice just seems to get quieter.
Lisa's hand grips the steering wheel tighter, silent in the pause between Jennie's words.
"I've been taught to keep a passive attitude from a young age. It comes from my parents. They were very stoic and in the shrewd world of corporate conspiracies, you need to be. But, um, I get how it's meddling with my more personal life. You've been very open and..." She hears Jennie gulp hard before saying, "Just...honestly the perfect date." Lisa's foot stomps down on the brake hard at the words, as the car comes to a stop with a jerk.None of them acknowledge it. Instead Lisa stares at Jennie in the dark of the car, throwing her the most incredulous look she might have ever pulled off.
"I would have never guessed that." She says in awe and that elicits a controlled snicker from Jennie.
"I reckon I have a lot to apologize for. I know I've been acting the opposite of what I actually feel and that has given you the wrong idea, but I have to admit it's very difficult on my part. How do you do it?" Jennie suddenly asks, leaving Lisa struggling.
"Do what?" She asks.
"Be such a joy to be around, talk about the most mundane things and make someone want to listen, still? I could never do it. We wouldn't have had tonight's date if I had been talking about my business meetings on the previous ones, would we? But you...you talked about the tea recipe you picked up from your grandmother and the narrative was so colorful, I almost forgot we had to ever leave that restaurant. How do you do it?" Jennie asks like she doesn't know she just stole Lisa's breath away.
"How did you do that?" Lisa asks back, breathlessly, her stomach swarming with butterflies. When Jennie tilts her head in question, she continues,"Take my breath away in these couple short seconds?"
She hears Jennie's breath hitch.
"You're making this very difficult for me because I'm not....sure...what I'm feeling and it scares me but I think this is what getting butterflies in your stomach is like." Jennie confesses breathlessly too, and Lisa smiles.
"Hey? Lisa?" Jennie calls softly when they're standing in front of the door to the girl's house, looking back at the named girl.
"Yeah?" Lisa asks.
"Will I, um, see you again?" Jennie asks quietly, her eyes downcast and expression insecure.
Lisa doesn't hesitate, "Yes."
Jennie smiles at that, looking up at her, all pearly whites and pink gums and Lisa realizes she's never, ever wanted to kiss someone as much as she wants to kiss Jennie Kim right now. Jennie probably shares the same thought because she tiptoes to Lisa's height and the latter feels the sweetest brush of lips against her own.
