''Come on, we need to go practice.'' Said Josh. He was on my front porch, I looked back at him.

''Ok, fine. Let's go.'' We started moving. There was a small forest here in Oregon. It was near here. We hiked there and started training. I took my arch and my bows out of its hidden place and Josh started to take the knives and daggers out.

''Ok, so every tree has a heart.'' He said. I laughed at that. ''Why are you laughing?''

''Josh, no tree has a heart.'' I said smiling.

''Every tree needs water and sun to survive or they will die, just like every human needs food and liquid to survive, to keep the heart pumping, or they will die.''

''Josh, I get your statement, but no tree has a heart that pumps blood.''

"You know what I meant. Ok, so I dare you to hit the middle of the tree with the bow, archer.'' He said with a challenging look.

"Ok." I said. I took my position and let the bow go. The bow hit the middle of the tree, a perfect hit, Josh kept saying that it was just luck. He bet if I tried again, I would miss it. I tried three more times and they all hit the same spot. ''Can't deny I'm better than you.''

He took my arch and bows away and took his position. He releases the bow and missed the tree.

''You got to shoot four times so I get to shoot three more times.'' At least he hit the tree once but not on the spot. I could see that Josh was frustrated with himself. ''Oh, can't deny it, you're better than me, you are a real archer.''

''Well, thanks.'' I said. "That's really flattering.'' I picked up four knives and handed them to him, he looked back at me. ''So do you think you're better than me at throwing knives?''

''Totally.'' He said and he began to throw all four knives. All four hit the middle of the tree, there was this way his arms' muscles moved, it gave me a desire to touch him, but I resisted it, instead I walked away from him, toward the tree, got the four knives, walked back to him, and said.

''Ok. Let's see if I'm good at throwing knives.'' I took my position. I threw my first knife and it hit the middle of the tree. I was happy, I could tell Josh was worried that I was going to win this bet.

I threw both my second and third, but missed it. I focused on my fourth and final knife, this time I hit the tree.

''Hah.'' Said Josh. "I won."

''Hey, two out of four is not bad.'' I said.'' Besides all of the scores together is out of eight, which means you have four out of eight and I six out of eight. So I won.''

''We aren't done yet, we still have our fighting and defending skills.'' He said. He knew he was better than me at those skills.

''Ok.'' I said.

It was really horrible for me, he kept tripping me, I got to defend myself pretty well, but he was too good for me, I tried and tried and tried, but he was just too good.

''Ok.'' I said. ''Can't deny it, but you are way too good at these skills.''

''And.''

''You won.'' I said.

''Well that's better.'' It was getting darker now.

''Come on, it's getting late and dark. Let's go home.''

On the way home, Josh kept giving me some nasty jokes about me and my mom.

''Ok, your mama___.''

''Oh, just shut up already.'' I joked. ''J.K.''

We made nasty jokes about each other. I didn't even notice that we were already in our neighborhood.

''Ok, bye Josh.'' I hugged him and he hugged me back. A moment later, I tried to pull away but he hugged me tighter, I tried again but failed. ''Josh, you'll see me again tomorrow.'' I said and he un-hugged me.

''It feels like it is the last time I'll be with you like that." He said sadly.

''Josh, what are you talking about?'' I asked. ''We'll always be together, always be there for each other, no matter what.'' I said truthfully.

''I feel like Alec might take my__.'' He hesitated for a moment. ''My best friend away from me.'' I put my palm on his face.

''You mean that he might destroy our friendship.'' I said and he nodded. ''Josh, I promise you no boyfriend of mine will ever destroy our friendship. What about you?''

''I promise you any girlfriend of mine won't destroy our friendship.'' He said and I smiled at him.

''Ok B.F., we better go or our moms will start worrying.'' I said and he smiled. ''Bye, best-friend.''

''Bye, best-friend.'' He said back and we turned different ways to our houses. I opened the front door of my house and saw it was eight o'clock. My mom was watching one of her favorite shows, 'Drop Dead Diva.' I walked into the living room and watched the show with no interest.

''So, what's up, mom?''

''Nothing, just happy you're sitting beside me and watching one of my favorite shows.'' She said and dropped her head on my shoulder. I put my hand around her with affection. Somehow me and my mom shared a real connection, people always said that I was exactly like her in every single way, but my mom was prettier and a little bit taller than me.

''You're so welcome.'' I said. We sat there, watching the show and laughing. We were enjoying our night.
