Hanging There

It had been two months and a few days since Josh had been dating Erika. I was really shocked. Actually, everyone was shocked, but at the end of the day, we all had to be happy for him or at least pretend to be happy. For those two months, I actually spent a lot of my time with Josh, which meant, I didn't really give him time to go on dates with his girlfriend Erika, which was obviously my plan.

I wondered why I was doing this? Was I jealous? 'I'll take that for a 'no.'' When they were on dates, I was always there, spying on them, but at the end of the day, I always ended up happy because Josh never tried to kiss her, but when she was trying to kiss him, I always made sure little accidents happened, and Josh never found out, but Megan always found out. She would always find it funny and sometimes she sang love songs that annoyed me.

Today, Josh and I___and Erika were in a little restaurant that you would mostly find teenagers hanging out. Erika and I were waiting at the table, we were a bit uncomfortable or at least I was a bit uncomfortable, Josh was getting us drinks, I didn't know what to say to break the silence between us.

I could be timid with someone I didn't really know and I was hoping she would say something because I found the silence between us very awkward.

''So, how are you doing?'' Asked Erika. I was relieved that she was the one to break the silence.

''Um, pretty good.'' I replied.

''You have a boyfriend, right?'' She asked uncomfortably.

''No.'' I said, a little awkward about this conversation that had just begun.

"Oh." She said, a little embarrassed. "I just thought that you had a boyfriend because one day I saw you with a guy.''

''Oh,that.'' I said. "Yeah, we used to date, but, turns out that he wasn't the guy I thought he was.'' I said truthfully. I was so relieved that Josh finally came with our drinks, now I would not have to talk about Alec anymore.

''Here are your drinks.'' Josh said.

''Thanks.'' Erika and I said.

''You are so welcome.'' He said, but he was looking at Erika. I felt something go through me, but it could not be something and by ''something'' I meant jealousy. I took a sip of my drink, which was lemonade, my favorite.

''So.'' I said a little loud. They both looked at me, I could not help it but feel very uncomfortable, they were still looking at me, now I felt ashamed 'cause I didn't know what to say. ''Okay, I have nothing.'' I said finally. Josh and Erika were still looking at me, which was making me feel really uncomfortable. "Can you guys please stop staring at me because I'm really uncomfortable right now.''

''Sorry." Josh said. "Look, I know it's a little weird to hang out with Erika. But it's okay, don't be shy.''

''You don't have to be uncomfortable around me.'' Erika said.

''Yeah, I know.'' I said. "I'm just timid around new people.'' Actually, I've known Erika for about two months now, it was just that I did not trust her and I could not be comfortable when I was with her. But, I had to play it around and pretend I enjoyed her so that I could make Josh happy.

''Are any of you guys done with your Physics homework?'' Asked Erika. ''Because I'm still not done with it yet.'' 'Okay.' I thought. 'Why was she telling us that, I mean who cares.'

''Yeah, I'm done with it already.'' Josh said. ''Anna helped me, if you want, I can help you.''

''Oh, great, because I seriously don't get it.'' Erika said happily. Seriously, why would Josh do that, I never let someone copy from me, NEVER, not even Gabe, Spencer,Ivy, Dylan. I rarely let Josh copy from my home works...and he knew that, so why would he do that?
