Dare returned by 11pm that night, Sandra already fell asleep on the chair she sat in a very uncomfortable position which would take its toll the next morning. Gently he guided her up and took her to their bedroom. Guilt was all he could feel, he knew he was in for trouble by morning, his head was working fast, thinking of all reasonable explanations he could give without breaking a sweat. He had promised himself he would not go back but habit was hard to rid and he found himself going back immediately he left work. He knew he was stuck, he was in trouble and there was no way around it, the only thing he could do was count the days before Sandra found out about his escapades. With a heavy and very guilty heart he went to bed beside his innocent and unsuspecting wife.
Sandra was surprised to find herself in bed next morning, she didn't know when she fell asleep but she knew very well that she was in the sitting room waiting for her husband. Remembering her husband, she turned to her side and found him sleeping peacefully. She thanked the Lord he was okay as she said her morning prayers although she wondered when he returned. When she was sure she was done with her morning routine, she woke him up.
"D-D wake up" she called as she shook the unmoving man, D-D was a nickname she made up for him.
He finally sat up and rubbed his face, clearing the last bit of sleep before looking up at his wife, he already knew what she was about to ask and he already had an answer.
" D-D, why did you come late yesterday? I was very worried about you" she asked as he yawned loudly and stretched.
"I'm sorry my love, I was stuck in traffic and when it finally cleared up I discovered I had a flat tire and I was still far from home, I had get down and pump it and by the time I was done it was already past 9pm, I had to speed home in the night. I'm really sorry I kept you up" Dare explained as he kept eye contact with her.
" Thank God you made it home, mama was worried about you too" she said as she double checked her bag to make sure everything was inside.
" My mother is around? She didn't tell me she was coming" he got up and made for the bathroom to prepare for work.
"My mother is around, she is still asleep. You'll see her before you go to work. Make sure to eat breakfast, I'm off to work" she rushed her words before pecking him and hurried out. It was almost 7am and she didn't want to wait in traffic.
She made sure to finish her work before it was time to close so she could leave early as her mother had instructed. She was surprised to see Dare, Abigail and her mother discussing when she got home.
She greeted them and excused herself to get refreshed. When she got back dinner was ready, she happily ate and chatted with them. She found out Dare returned early from work to make up for his late coming the previous day, Abigail had a night shift in the hospital so she spent the day with her mother to keep her company. Abigail left after dinner and the couple spent time talking about work and their daily life in general with Sandra's mother.
The week wore off quickly. That Saturday as the couple did the house chores together, Sandra's mother prepared for the wedding.
The couple spent all day finishing the work they brought home for the weekend, napping and watching movies. Sandra was glad the kitchen was stocked to last another two weeks as her mother had spared no expenses in buying stock for the kitchen when she arrived. She was still sleeping when her mother returned from the wedding. She freshened up and joined her to to unpack the souvenirs she received from the party. They discussed late into the evening as they both prepared dinner not bothering to rouse Dare who was still napping. As they prepared dinner, her mother brought up the issue of grandkids, she was serious this time and Sandra had no choice but to let the words of the older lady sink in.
"Sandra you are getting older, you should hurry up and give birth so that your children will be grown ups by the time you are old like me, as you can see I am already old and in need of a grandchild, my house is very lonely with only me, very soon your in-laws will be at your door steps soon, people will start making all sorts of speculations soon and your husband would leave you to the arms of another lady ready to produce children for him" she concluded as she washed Vegetables. She had totally forgotten about Dare's parents, she was ready to have children at anytime but it was up to she and Dare to decide as they would both be involved in the child's life. She knew sooner or later Dare's parents would be at her door knocking and asking for grandkids. She knew she had to discuss the issue of children with Dare again.
As Sandra went to work that Monday, she dropped her mother at the bus stop. She was sad her mother was leaving, she loved having her mother around but the older woman said she couldn't leave her business unattended for long and had to go. Sandra waved as she left her mother and drove to work.
