The next three months was uneventful, the couple had an argument whilst discussing the issue of children and it didn't escalate, thankfully. Sandra was still not sure why Dare was delaying the idea of childbirth but she placed no argument as she knew it was for the best reasons. Over the couple of weeks, she has noticed alot of changes in him, some times he was the sweetest husband anyone could hope for and at other times he was closed off and cold. Also Sandra had started receiving texts again, this time it was words, no one than three or four words. Sometimes it was questions like
"Do you trust him" other times it was a statement like
"Such a fool" at other times it was just a phrase
"Poor lady". She could not block the number as it was a private contact, she was scared as she knew someone was watching her and her family. She told her mom and Abigail and both said the same thing. They both said it's just a jealous lady who might be trying to snatch her husband. They had advised her to take extra care of her husband so he would not fall into temptation. Sandra didn't even want to let the thoughts of someone else with her husband cross her mind. She knew it was her husband who would suffer the consequences, she didn't care who went to whom first, she would deal with her husband and not the woman so she followed the advice of the older ladies and did all she could go keep him happy, sometimes it felt like she wasn't giving enough and at other times, she felt like she was being too desperate for his attention and she was competing with some imaginary lady who was after her husband. She already gave up the idea of trying too hard, she knew he loves her and she loves him too and that was enough conviction.
Sandra was unfocused at work, she kept making mistakes and zoning out in meetings. Her colleagues took no notice of this, no one knew the smiling lady in the office was having an inner turmoil, she was a nervous wreck and it was because of a simple reason. The call she received when she got to work that morning. Her mother in-law was in town.
Normally she wouldn't be scared as she saw the lady like her mother but the lady despised her, she was not in support of the marriage as she didn't want her son getting married to a student, then. She had said Sandra would frolick in school before going to her marital home during the holidays. Well as other people supported the union, she had no other choice but to warm up to Sandra who she had learned to take as part of the family. Although she made occasional sneering remarks, she didn't let her prejudice get the best of her. Sandra still couldn't help but feel nervous as the older lady had said there was something they needed to discuss. She had a guess what it was about but she didn't let her imagination override her.
She jumped off her seat, startled as she was not expecting someone to touch her while she was lost in her reverie. She was told it was time to go home and when she looked at the clock, indeed it was time to go.
She stopped at the beginning of the street leading to her home to get some suya(grilled beef) as a peace offering to her mother in-law just incase the lady was mad at her. You could never tell with old people, they were easily offended. Besides, the last time she contacted her was over a month ago so she knew she was due for some scolding. Thinking about this only intensified her nervousness. If someone was to ask the reason she was nervous, she knew there was no definite answer. She was just nervous and that's that.
Taking a very deep breath, she opened the door to her home, ready to be scolded.
