December 1912, Small Heath, Birmingham
It was December 20th of 1912, the day of John's and Tessa's wedding.
"Alright, love. That's you done" Polly had just finished dressing Tessa, pulling the veil on top of her head. The two made there way down the stairs of the Dog's house and into the kitchen.
Polly grabbed a bottle of rum from the cupboard where Johnny kept his drink. She poured out two glasses of rum for each of them. She sat at the table with Tessa sitting across from her, she pushed the drink over in her direction. Polly took a couple of sips from the rum looking up at Tessa's face.
"Are you ready for this?" Tessa looked up at Polly's face, just staring at her "I don't know Poll"
Polly took hold of her hand "You will want to be ready Tess, were leaving any minute now" Polly laughed at the girl.
Tessa nodded her head, agreeing with her "But Poll ... who is going to give me away? father's are not meant to, it can only be women or mother's"
"I am. You silly girl. Your father asked me to give you away" Tessa's eyes lit up "You mean it, you'll give me away" Polly nodded her head, standing up and pulling the girl into a hug. When they pulled away both the women had big smiles on there face.
Both the girl's head turned in the direction of the front door. Scudboat from the betting shop stuck his head in the door "The car is ready, for ye"
Polly and Tessa grabbed hold of there drink, downing the last of it before making there way out of the house and into her father's car.
In the car the two made small talk, while been drove over to the back fields where the wedding was to take place. Polly lay her hand on top of Tessa's stomach "You wouldn't even know your bloody pregnant right now"
"It's still to early for me to be showing, I'm only two months gone" Polly laughed, taking her hand away "That's true"
Tessa got out of the car with Scudboat's help. She nodded her head at him"Thank you" Scudboat tipped his hat at the girl, before leaving the two and joining the others in the field.
Polly turned towards Tessa, pulling the veil over her head fully "Let's go love" she said linking her arm in Tessa's walking out into the field where everyone was gathered.
As they got closer Tessa could see everyone in her eye of view, she took a couple of deep breaths, before herself and Polly made it to the front of everyone, where she knelled down on the hassock.
"There she is" Tommy said to John.
Polly left go of the girls arm walking to the back where the boys were gathered.
