~ Daryl Dixon ~

I staggered as I opened the door leading out of my bedroom that was across the hall from Meg and Max. I hadn't heard anything from them, which was a bit strange. When I stepped out into the hallway, Max was walking down the hall with Hendrix, headed back to his room from the rec room.

"Hey bud." I slurred, and Max sent me a smile.

"Hey. Mom should be out of the shower by now." Max said with a small, a couple of books in his hands. I nodded, relaxing a bit as I leaned back against the doorway.

"Okay good. Well if you need me. Yell." I grumbled and Max nodded as he opened up his door. I backed back into my room as I heard Max said his Ma's name. It wasn't until he said it a second time that I thought something was wrong.

"Mom?" Max cried, and I heard a crash something fell to the ground. I stumbled out of the door, trying to run to the room. I stumbled a few times as I went, but when I made it in I fell to my knees.

Max was standing over her body in the bathroom. She was laying naked on the floor, blood was splattered around the room, with a small puddle of blood pooling between her legs. She wasn't moving.

"Meg?" I said quietly, hoping she would open her eyes and turn in my direction. But she didn't move as Max shook her body frantically. I stumbled back up to my feet, and grabbed Max.

"Max, Max stop. Stop. Let me take a look at her." I said quietly, and Max pulled away from me, backing away but he didn't take his eyes off her. I tried not to look at her body, focusing my attention on the important parts.

She had definitely been assaulted. There were dark bruises in the shapes of fingers on her hands, and a bruise around her mouth. Not to mention everything happening between her legs. I didn't want to, but I had to know. I placed my fingers on her neck, feeling for a heartbeat, and finally, I found one.

"Max, it's okay, she's alive."

~ Ten Years Ago ~

I was sixteen. I had just found out I was pregnant, and I was dreading telling Dale and Irma. They had always been supportive, but never had something like this happened. It was going fine, we were at dinner, and Dale and Irma weren't talking as much as normal, which made me anxious, but I still felt the urge to tell them.

"Dale, Irma-"

"Meg-"

We all started talking at the same time before we stopped talking.

"Go ahead." Dale said gently and I nodded.

"I'm pregnant." I mumbled out hastily, and it was like time froze.

"You're what...? I didn't even know you were seeing someone." Irma said, sounding very concerned. I nodded.

"I wasn't. It was them." I didn't have to explain it to them. Dale's hand grabbed one of mine, and Irma grabbed the other.

"You are not going back there." Irma promised, and I nodded.

"Does that mean...?" I paused, a hopeful tint to my voice, but both of their hands tensed up and I knew they wouldn't say what I wanted them to.

"No honey. I'm sorry. That's what we were going to tell you. Irma has cancer. And we... we are going to have to travel to see some doctors, and with you being pregnant now you won't be in the system anymore. I'm so sorry sweetheart. We really wanted to be your parents."

I had never wanted to die more.
